My cd/dvd rom do not play when i i insert cd.what can i do?

Try navigating to Start Button/ My Computer/, then Double-click the CD or DVD drive. If no CD or DVD drive shows up in My Computer, there is a problem with the drive. if no disc shows up in the Drive, it is a problem with reading the media.

My dell studio 1535 will not open a cd, when I insert the cd nothing happens. I just had a new hard drive installed..

If the CD-ROM will boot from a recovery CD, then this would indicate a Windows software problem instead of a CD-ROM issue. It can usually be attributed to a corrupt driver. To reinstall the drivers:

1. Go to Start>> Right click My Computer>> Properties>> Hardware>> Device Manager.

2. Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives line item.

3. Right click on the items below and select Uninstall drive on the resulting menu.

4. Re-boot the system and Windows will automatically detect the CD-ROM drive and re-install the drivers for you.

Try a different media - some brands will just not work correctly with a given CD-ROM drive. Watch out for compatibility problems with Maxell, Memorex and Macromedia CDs.

Check for unusual noises, maybe a ticking type noise. This could indicate a cracked disk. Or, the media may not be seated correctly on the spindle.

Is the access light on?

Is the CD Clean?

Check error messages in Event Viewer. Here's how:

Go to Start>> Settings>> Control Panel>> Administrative Tools>> Computer Management (or Event Viewer)

Check your manufacturer's web site for software updates and drive updates. Check for QSI firmware updates.

For DVD - Are you trying to write to a DVD that is READ ONLY?

If all has failed, you may be faced with performing a complete Operating System Recovery or Repair (preferred).

If nothing above has worked for you, then you may need to take the drive in to a service facility for repair or replace the drive.

Get a little cd flashing by the pointer when putting a game on.the game will not start.what does the flashing cd mean?

The drive is attempting to initiate the Autorun of the CD. Some CDs have an autoplay feature, some don't, some the autoplay doesn't work. So open my computer, see if the drive actually reads the CD. If it does, look for an autoplay or setup.exe

The setup wizard on the CD will not automatically run when inserted in the CD-ROM drive, what do i do?

  1. click on start
  2. My computer
  3. right click on CD/DVD Drive
  4. Left click auto run

selecting My Computer, right-clicking the drive that contained the CD-ROM, and selecting Properties. click the AutoPlay tab and select the Select an action to perform option, then double-click the program to use to run the CD-ROM. This action launched the program on the CD-ROM. Note that simply highlighting the program you want to use and clicking OK or Apply doesn't work; you must double-click the program and force it to launch on the CD-ROM or DVD in the drive. The CD-ROM then ran automatically, using the program associated with it on the AutoPlay tab.
