when you are in a call there should be a mute button that says mute or unmute or microphone. make sure if it is a word it says mute or if it is microphone that there is not a line through it.

You may have to adjust the EQ7 Preset to XPLOD and then listen to the jam. Here are the instructions from the bt3100u manual:
Selecting the sound quality
- EQ7 Preset
You can select an equalizer curve from 7 equalizer curves ("XPLOD," "VOCAL," "EDGE," "CRUISE," "SPACE," "GRAVITY," "CUSTOM" or "OFF").
1 During reception/playback, press the select button.
2 Rotate the control dial until "EQ7 PRESET" appears, then press it.
3 Rotate the control dial until the desired equalizer curve appears, then press it.
4 Press (BACK).
The display returns to normal reception/play mode. To cancel the equalizer curve, repeat the first 2 steps then select "OFF" in step 3.
Tip
The equalizer curve setting can be memorized for each source.
We hope that this helps. If not please return and post how this went.

Hope you're satisfied with my solution. Thanks for choosing Fixya.
Thats because your only paired with the phone. if you go to settings (assuming you have an android o.s) then "wireless and networks" then "bluetooth setting" you will see it only says "connected to (phone) not audio. This means your not completely paired. You will have to reset the speaker. Thats done by pressing the "skip back" and "skip forward" buttons at the same time until all the lights blink at the same time on the speaker. Usually 10 seconds. Then try to repair with the speaker. The code it will ask for (assuming you didnt change it from the factory settings)is 0000. That should work. Let me know if you ever have a problem with it being stuck on mute. Im still trying to figure that one out.
This mount an EQ7 is virtually brand new production. Very little information except for pictures and a few articles. Here are some links that may help you:
