My Philips Plasma keeps shutting down then starting up again

  • Anonymous May 01, 2009

I had the same problem and it took me about a year and a half of calling Philips almost every day complaining. They replaced my television and the new one had the same problem. It took more than 6 months of complaining to them again before an electronic company came and took the tv. They told me that Philips know about the problem and there is a fix. After they repaired it the turning off problem never came back.

Did you try updating the firmware? Many display units in the store did this and I've read about it on-line. Mine came with the latest firmware which fixed this issue. Never wasa problem for me.

I have a Philips Plasma tv 42pf5321d/37 with sound but no picture

Thats the great sound of Exploding capacitors on either the power supply board. or another one in there. Now the set is in fault protection. It tried to warn you with the RED blinking LED that there was something amiss by shutting itself down. When you unplugged you reset the error and allowed it to do it again.

Best Regards and Smper Fi

Philips 42PF9630A

Go to philips website and download the latest firmware and install via usb. The fw corrects random power on and offs. If that doesnt fix your problem, the tv is going into error protection mode do to a voltage problem detected by the power supply.

That will be hard to diagnose as everything will test ok as it works before shutting off. The best way is to run the set and use a temp gun to find out whats overheating and go from there.

My plasma shuts down ..

Since it is still under warranty, it is best to get a replacement rather than attempt a DIY. I would suggest you get yourself a surge protector too..Seems like the issues you are experiencing is due to fluctuating voltages..

Hope that helps!

It keeps intializing

Install and run the Philips Device Manager.

Press and hold the [VOL+] button on the player whilst connecting to the PC.

Philips Device Manager will show the device connected in repair mode. Release the [VOL+] button and follow the on-screen prompts.

This will format the player and re-flash the firmware.

Disconnect the player when finished, and re-start it. It should briefly show initiallizing and then shut down.

Re-start the player again, and it should show "updating", then start up.

Occasionally this will cure the problem. If it doesn't try it 2 or 3 times.

If it still doesn't work, then unfortunately you will have to take it back, as there is no other known cure.

The problem is in your cable connection on the back of your monitor or Box. I had the same problem and solved it by reattaching the VGA cable that was loose.
