Door opens and closes without being prompted

i would guess a staple thru your wall control wires is intermittently shorting out. change in temp makes a connection and it is just like pushing the wall button. try disconnection one of the wires from the wall button at the opener and see if it still happens. doubt it has anything to do with the sensor safety system.

We installed the opener and everything works as it should but every morning we find the door open. Then in the afternoon it usually closes itself.

i would look for a shorted out wire to the wall button. maybe a staple thru the wires shorting it out. cold night and warm days expand/contract wires and staples and make a connection.

I have a craftsman garage door opener and recently it has started to open on it's own but only opens half way and stops. This has happened a few times so I currently have it unpluged..any ideas

Anytime a door opens and/or closes randomly or doesn't work consistently I look for a smashed wire between the motor unit and the wall button.

If the wire is smashed the insulation becomes so thin that power will leak thru the insulation and activate the door or interfere with the remote signal.

Loosen the staples with a small screwdriver and slide the wire about ½ inch to move any areas of thin insulation away from the staples.

The second thing would be a bad wall button or a remote with a sticking button.

Or a remote in someone

Or a remote in someone’s purse that gets the button pushed by other stuff in the purse.

The test is to disconnect the push button wires at the power unit. If the self operation / interference stops you have located the problem. If you reconnect the wires and disconnect the wire at the wall button this will tell you if the problem is the wire or the button.

Craftsman garage door 1/2 hp opens. Keeps open for no apparent reason. In the middle of the night and sometimes during the day, How can I fix

Most commonly this is caused by a bad wall control or the wiring going to it. The wall control goes bad from constant use and the problem with the wiring is caused by the staples most installers use. The staples cut through the insulation and cause intermittent shorts. I would remove the wall control and check it for a few days and if it happens again you can remove the wire going to terminal #1 on your motor unit. That will eliminate the wiring. Be sure to remember where the wires go on the back of the wall control as they are color coded. One is solid white and the other is white with a red stripe.
