"FILE CONTAINS NO IMAGE DATA"

Out of about 100 photos I've taken, only 4 show up when I view my photos on the camera. The others all say "FILE CONTAINS NO IMAGE DATA". How can I retrieve these pictures?  They do not upload to my PC when I connect it to transfer the photos. I hope you can help! Thanks in advance.

same thing is happening to me coolpix L18 some one help!

I used to be able to view all my photos on my nikon coolpix camera, but ever since I inserted the memory stick into a computer overseas, most of the photos displays "File contains no image data."

I've never deleted any of them, and when I flick through the files, two of the photos show for a split second, before they're replaced by that same message. Surely the photos haven't deleted themself?

I'm desperate to retrieve the photos. I'm not sure if I can though, because I'll be heading back home tomorrow and won't have access to that computer.

Is there any way to retrieve the photos using ANOTHER computer and my memory stick?

I had a similar problem recently. Except that it occurs when I copy images to my camera (whether on SD or on Internal Memory), I get the message: "File Contains No Image Data". When I take a picture with the camera however, it sometimes displays. Additionally, attempting to download the pictures brings up on a few of them. I can't copy from SD to Internal, and the picture displays for a second or 2, then gives me the error message when viewing on the camera. Nikon Coolpix S6200

It may be of your new SD card. Try with another SD card. It may not show you File contains No Image Data. -Lalith

How do I get the date stamp to show up on the picture DMC Lz2 ? I've already set the clock in the settings menu. But the date and time stamp doesn't show up on the photo taken.

The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its EXIF metadata. Any photo viewing/editing program should be able to display this data. To print this data, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.

Nikon D70 data imprint

Sorry for the long answer, but this is complicated.

Some photo editors will allow you to set them up to display the date on the photo.

HOWEVER on all digital cameras:

The date taken is part of the image data that is stored in the file, but not as part of the image. If you print directly from the D70, you can set the date and data to print in one of the menus, but this only applies if you print from the camera. There is no way to actually put the date on the image like there used to be in some film cameras. Since the "picture" is now just a set of computer data bits stored on a card, disk, or other medium, the actual picture is defined by the jpeg standard, which is part of the ANSI/ISO/IEC organization. A camera manufacturer could add an extra bit of hardware to generate some kind of laser mark on the digital sensor in the camera, but I'm not aware of any camera that has this. For sure, the D70 does not.

In the various softwares that you can buy to read the file, the information in the file (like the date) can be interpreted and printed any way the software is programmed, including putting it somewhere on the printed output.

File Contains No Image!

Does the camera have internal memory? The folder name might not match the folder you or the camera are looking for. REmove mem card and see if the pics are still on the camera, if so, then try again without the card in. try and see the card in "mass media storage" mode on your PC. Reformat the card in the camera after you get the pics off to reset the folder name.

Unable to view pictures in folder

This is normal. Many cameras will not display photos taken by other cameras.
