When my KP-65WS500 starts up, it has a horrible convergence problem, where all 3 color crts are highly distorted and not aligned. After 3-5 hours of operation, this goes away. If I leave the TV on, it stays fine. If I turn the TV off for more than 5 minutes, the problem comes right back.
Any suggestions on adjustments I can try to make?

Re:
I doubt it. In a problem like this it could be a power supply that feeds the convergence ic(s). The longer you wait to have this problem taken care of the more of a risk your taking of blowing out the ICs, if there already not bad. Its highly unlikly all three ics went bad at once, unless of a power supply problem. Now this set is not serviceable by the end user as its solid state and all parts are soldered in. Also theres alot of HI Voltage inside this set!! Have the set checked out by a technician ASAP for a bad filter capacitor in the b+ line that feeds the convergence ics Good Luck

Tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignments, have colors pictures shadows or 3D pictures look alike?Yes.The tv convergence board it dead. The tv convergence board must be replacing the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.To fix the tv convergence board to solved the tv convergence picture problems. The shop, will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.

Thats a convergence failure issue. The Sony Type 1 convergence repair kit available from www.tvrepairworld.com is the kit your model uses. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions.
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.
The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.
the two resistors were likely burnt out with a convergence IC (chip). these are usually a stk392-120 on a philips, or simmilar. the alignments can be very tedious and difficult. what needs to be done is replace the ICs that control the colors that are mis-aligned. you might see that the green is square and straight, but the red or blue is off. in most cases, i would just change both convergence ICs plus the bad resistors. then go to your full re-alignment of convergence to fix the picture. hopefully the previous owner didn't mess anything up too much (if they changed anything on the CRTs ie yokes, lens focus, centering magnets it could counteract your electronic adjusments). before you put too much time into it, look to see that all 3 colors are atleast focused and it appears that the CRTs have been left untouched. once you get circuit repaired, you will probably want a service manual to help with alignment. this complexity may bring you to want to just pay for this repair, could run you anywhere from $200-400 depending on severity and local rates.
