It appears to be from detecting an arc due to insulation fault such as a punctured sleeve or too close to a conductor with dust and humidity.

This may be difficult or easy depending on your hands on skills. With power unplugged at all times, the big cap inside will self-discharge. Then follow this Youtube link for easy stripdown , but the user could not fix it. However E&M in text did fix his and others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXRykNj2Lh0

To start , here is a general diagram for microwave, so that you can locate parts, just move the mouse on top of the picture.

Before performing any operation discharge high voltage capacitors, . see Procedure.

To test the magnetron you test its resistance, when it is 0 Ohms , then it is faulty.

See here on how to proceed :

Microwave will not operate (cook). F7 error code
appears on the display.

Electrical circuit interruption between L1 and Neutral in
the microwave inverter circuit.

Possible reasons:
1. Check door, hinge and cavity front alignment and adjust
as needed.
2. Check the operation of all interlock switches.
3. Check over temperature protector for the magnatron.
4. Check all Cavity Thermostats for closed circuit.
5. Unplug the oven for at least 40 seconds. If this solves
the problem
A. Check the Cooling Fan for proper operation or
blockage
B. Check the resistance of the magnetron thermostat.
It should be 0 Ohms, replace if necessary.
6. Check that the control cable to the 1100 watt inverter
is properly connected to plug P2 on the display PCB
& Adjust or Reconnect
7. If interlock switches operate correctly, replace 1100W
inverter.
8. If problem persists, replace control assembly.

See also How To Test The Magnetron Used In Microwave Ovens

The inverter is more difficult to test , as you need scpecific knowledge to test an electronic board.

    While pressing the CANCEL keypad:

    Open the oven door.

Unplug the microwave oven for 2-seconds
    and plug it back in.

c Release the CANCEL keypad and close the
oven door. You will see the following display.

    CHART

\ The humidity sensor test results will appear on the
display after 8-seconds.If the tests are successful, "OK " will be
displayed. If one or more of the tests fail, "ERR " will be
displayed.. 2.When a keypad is pressed, a number according to the test chart
will be displayed. When no keypad is pressed, a blank "" is
    displayed...

    This most commonly is a
bad door switch, other possible problems are a faulty relay
or solder joint on the power module, but a bad door switch is most common.

  • Anonymous Oct 18, 2008

Unplug the oven (make sure the oven is completely disconnected from any power source)

        DISCHARGE

        ALL HIGH VOLTAGE CAPACITORS
        . (Procedure)

        Carefully remove all leads from

the magnetron terminals. Proper wiring is important so make notes of the wire

        locations.

Set the ohmmeter to its lowest resistance

        scale.

        Measure the resistance from one

magnetron terminal to the other in either direction.

        The magnetron filament resistance

should be less than one ohm.

I believe that is a microcomputer board failure. You will have to replace this board. Website below.

I have gotten parts from "repairclinic" on line and they worked fine. I saved $600 on the last repair of an oven. Good luck.

or sir you can find and fix each and every type of code error

My immediate reaction would be to cut your losses and buy a new unit as sooner or later you will run into a part that is no longer available.

Your full model number would be either GH6177XPS1, GH6177XPS2, GH6177XPS3, or GH6177XPS4 as found on the model tag. I mention that only if you need to order parts.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

mini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpgAt our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

On the tech sheet for our model, trouble code F7 is discussed:

F7 Power to magnetron interrupted

1. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
2. After 40 seconds, check to see whether this solves the problem.
3. Unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
4. Check cooling fan operation
5. Check resistance of the magnetron thermostat.
6. Check the magnetron.
7. Check P2, P4 and P27 connections.
8. Check wiring to the 1100W inverters and control system. See "Checking Inverters."
9. Check operation of all interlock switches.
10. Replace inverter, if defective.
11. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
12. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
13. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
14. Replace electronic control.
15. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
16. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.
17. If problem persists, unplug microwave oven or disconnect power.
18. Check for reversed plug connection on controls or loose wiring.
19. Replace all parts and panels before operating.
20. Plug in microwave oven or reconnect power.

Model 72180883400

Hi,
F-9 error code indicates a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high. f the microwave runs for about 7 seconds with a ticking sound..then stops and shows "F-9", it is the magnetron that has failed. The fact that the unit starts and runs with the TICKING SOUND means the control board is sending signal to inverter board and the inverter board is sending signal to magnetron. Magnetron is covered by full 5 year warranty, inverter board is only 3 years.
