My computer freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen. What can I do to fix this?

The computer starts up, goes to the Dell logo screen with f2 for setup and f12 for boot options but then when it gets to the starting windows screen, it automatically freezes, and the only thing I can do is turn it off. Before that it allows me to choose "launch startup repair" or "start normally", but the launch startup doesn't help. What can I do to stop this problem?

SOURCE: I am trying to reinstall

Check the Date and Time setting, if these are wrong you will get the Strike F1 and F2 message.
OR
The BIOS battery is flat and it won't save the BIOS settings. In this case, replace the BIOS battery and configure the BIOS again.

What is the f2,f8, r f12 want work? only the Ctrl+ Alt+ del that wroks

F2 usually takes you to the BIOS setup screen, you need to hit the keys as soon as you power up.

F12 selects on a Dell instant boot menu to select booting from CD-ROM, USB, etc rather than the BIOS options.

F8 goes to safe mode start up for windows, this must be done before the windows logo comes up (ie when it is a black screen).

Control - Alt -Delete Keys together can be used any time, after windows boots as it tells it to re-boot the computer, back to start up.

Freezing during the Power On Self Test (POST) is typically due to hardware problems. You can narrow down the culprit by disconnecting devices one by one until it boots clean. Start with the CDROM, then the floppy, then any cards.

How can i go to bios setup

Straight from the Dell website:
  1. Turn on (or restart) your computer.

  2. When "F2 = Setup, F12 = Boot Menu" appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, press .

If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer and try again.

I hope this answers your question!

Try restoring your system bios to factory default and this may fix your problem. If not- post again with results and we'll go from there.

Entering System Setup

Turn on your computer.

When the blue DELL logo is displayed watch for the F2 prompt to appear (black screen / white text).

Once this F2 prompt appears, immdiately press F2 .

The F2 prompt indicates that the keyboard has initialized and is detected. This prompt can appear very quickly. Watch for it to display as the screen powers up, and then press F2. If you press F2 before you are prompted, this keystroke will be lost. There is a small window of time to do this before Windows starts.
If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop. Then, shut down your computer and try again to enter setup. At setup check your bios version. It may need to be flashed (upgraded). Select load factory defaults to see if that will resolve your PCI issues.

Have a Dell Studio. When I power up the Dell Logo appears with loading bar below that. The bar stops about 2/3 of the way, it freezes up and starts beeping. Nothing I've tried works.

this is often related to a possible motherboard problem. Try these steps: turn it off, remove the battery, and AC adapter, then press and hold the power button for about 5 to 10 seconds. Once done, reconnect at least the adapter , turn on the laptop and as soon as the Dell logo shows up, tap F2 a few times to enter System Setup (BIOS screen). From there, go to the Maintenance category, and select Load Defaults, press Enter. Press ESC, then select Save/Exit, restart the computer and see how it goes.

Immediately after you start the computer start hitting F2( or Delete key in some systems), It will take you to BIOS. Just load the default settings for BIOS save settings and exit.

My dell (monitor) it turns on few secons but the image goes off,

First you'll have to power off the system.
Please power on the system and as soon as you see the Dell logo please tap the F2 button 3 - 4 times.
The computer will go to the system setup. Check if the screen goes blank here.
If the screen stays on then try this.
1. Please power off the system.
2. Please power on the system and as soon as you see the Dell logo please tap the F8 button 3 - 4 times. You'll reach the Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu on the screen.
3.Select Safe mode with Networking.
4. Select Administrator at the log in screen.
5. Warning dialog box with the message Windows is running in safe mode. appears. Click the Yes button.
6. The desktop appears with the words Safe Mode appearing in all four corners.
7. Uninstall the video drivers and restart the computer.
8. Resintall the video drivers.

Try starting the computer in safe mode

Press F5 every few seconds when you startup the computer.

That should take you into windows. Once you're in, just restart the computer and you should be able to get back in.

Let me know what happens.
