I expect that since the unit reads the outside temperature from the remote thermostat, there is no need to "reset" the displayed number since this data is obtained live from the thermostat.
if yes - the outside station is transmitting but the temperature sensor is faulty,
if no sensing is available from the outside station, it look like the outside station is faulty . (this is common because of extreme weather change.
notice that the pressure sense is done in the base station.

I've had the same problem since I bought this unit 2+ years ago; when the outside temperature moves into the freezing zone, the sensor stops transmitting. I contacted Lacrosse-- all they could suggest was change the batteries. My solution: throw it in the trash!
These devices have a limited range, normally 20-30' (~6-9m) and that range is influenced by the material that separates them.
Any metal structures in their path can shorten the useful range.
Also, I think all of these transmit only a second or two every few minutes to conserve battery power.
