I don't know what camera you have and I don't know which mode you are using (manual exposure, full auto, shutter or aperture priority, etc.) so I can only make a generalized guess. It may be related to your shutter speed. Although your camera may have a wide range, for example 10 to 1/2000 second, your flash will only be properly triggered and synced over a limited range. I would take a few pictures with the shutter at 1/60 second and see if that helps. Also, on more advanced SLR's you can select a rear curtain mode. See if that may be a factor.

SOURCE: SB600 Works Erratically...

If red light on flash is blinking, flash is charging. In shooting rapidly, sometimes flash will go off even though it isnt fully charged. This can give dark shots. Flash eats batteries like crazy, best to always use fresh batteries for each shoot.

Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash: When I set my SB600 (mounted on D70) to TTL or TTL...

the sync speed for the sb-600 is onlt 1/200 on most cameras i think so if your shutter is faster then that then all you will see is black/ the curtans behind the shutter.

basicly just try again with a slower shutter speed

Pictures very dark even with a light meter

Digital cameras operate on a delayed shutter. Your Camera and flash are not synchronized. Try adjusting flash to a slower speed. Or the cameras Fstop value to get them insync.

If you half push the shutter the rangefinder and focus circuits kick in and will adjust to available light and give you your best picture. Do not ever push the shutter in one step. press it slightly to get the best focus and then push the last millimeter to get the picture!

DROPPED NIKON d40, now my pictures are all dark

First u have to reset the camera,go through the menu and select reset and yes. the camera will take default settings.Try now.

Reset the camera opening the connector cover.

You try with a different compatible lens .If works we have to change the lens.

Remove the battery and get fully charged .Operate all switches for some clicks. then put the battery and try.

Then u have to consult a mechanic.

Sb600 wireless mode not working...

Remember that even though sb-600 is wireless, it is based on infrared. This usually means having a clear line-of-sight between flash commander and remote flash. Any object that gets in way can block signal from flash commander. Weak batteries in flash will also cause remote operation to be sporadic.
