SOURCE: dvd / cd rom not recognized on my computer list

1) Go to Control Panel. Open the System Icon.
2( Click on Hardware Tab, then click on Device Manager.
3) The device manager will list all of your hardware that is on your computer. If you see a yellow? mark oryellow ! mark next to your DVD/CD rom drive, simply click on it then click Repair. It also may tell you that it is not recognozied. Follow the directions.
4) If you do not see this in your Device Manager go to Add Hardware in your Control Panel which is next to your Add/Remove Programs icon. Click on Add Hardware and it will scan for all hardware.
** This should take care of your problem. If not then somehow the actual connection in your tower has come loose. If so you must open your tower and look for a loose wire going to your DVD/CD rom drive.
*** Please let me know if this corrects your problem.Simply email me(Phil) at: [email protected]

Dvd-rom sd-616E driver no longer recognized by

Reboot the computer and go into the BIOS, see if its recognized in there, if its not recognized then you'll need to turn the computer off and unseat and reseat the cable and the power connector to the dvd drive. Then turn on the computer again and go into the BIOS, if the dvd drive is still not recognzied then you'll need to replace the drive.

If the dvd drive is recognized in the BIOS and not in windows then you'll need to go into the system restore in windows and choose a date the last time the computer was working, it will restore your computer back to this date and reboot. At that point it should recognize your dvd drive. If it doesn't then your OS is corrupt and you'll need to wipe out the drive and restore your computer back to factory defaults.

Cd/dvd isnt recognized in windows xp

There are many compatibility issues still with CD/DVD formats and disk drive manufacturer's.
Check the format of the disk (CD-RW, CD+RW, etc...)
Sounds like the drive isn't recognizing the format this disk was written in. Google CD/DVD format types for a better understanding.

Hp pavilion zv6000 wont recognize dvd+r

Hi Terry,

The answer is pretty simple, the ZV series is about 4 years old, back then DVD manufacturers decided which formats they would support as it was too expensive to make desktop drives, let alone, laptop drives that supported all formats. That drive only works with DVD-R and I believe DVD-RW. If you want to burn other formats, the laptop will only support them if you add an external drive of a newer make.

Note: Virtually all current models support ALL DVD formats and many support BluRay as well.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Worked in other computer in this Gateway Celeron 1.2gh it does not recognize that it has a cd or dvd in it. Running WinXP Pro with sp2, roxio 9 and Cyberlink PowerDVD6

If the pc isn't recognizing the hardware the main reason this happens is that you need to install the proper drivers.
