Restart then go to notification bar, the check resolution
Both issues are from the restore most likely. I would say both are driver related issues. Max color when no driver is present is 16 colors and low res.
Go into the device manager.
Any yellow ! or ? indicates a driver issue. You will need to go to sony's support page on another computer and download the drivers

If your unable to set the resolution or it has no effect, I would stick trying to download and update/reinstall your video driver

manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as
usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer
Instruction Manuals, list
of Dealers,
for spare parts and service, Driver
downloads
and
Installation Instructions
as required.
Just Google the manufacturer's name and
follow the links. Make certain you are directed to the manufacturer's
web site as some search engines direct you to other sites and they
charge for the information that is normally free of charge.
I have just browsed ebay and nothing there. Keep your eye on ebay as I have seen them for sale second hand.
