Sometimes, the battery alarm is set to high or off and it will automatically warn you when the battery is at a certain percentage. Most newer laptops will even warn you when the battery is going bad.

The AC cord is both the power cord and it will also charge the battery when plugged in as well.

So, it's safe to run on just battery as it may just be telling you that it doesn't have AC power and that you're running only on the battery. My Satellite laptop is setup to warn you when it's only on battery power as well.

Acer aspire e1-532 battery led off when plug the ac adapter and does not power up

It is beyond what I can diagnose remotely, as it fails to power up even on just the AC adaptor, without the battery.

It needs a professional repair, which means opening it up to find out why it fails to start or even show a screen, which means no software fix can be done.

"Plugged in, not charging", Toshiba Satellite A135 S4527, under Windows Vista Home Premium

I started having the same problem and worse mine would shut off without warning either from the battery running down or even just plugged in without a battery.

I thought It might be overheating so I got a can of air and cleaned all of the vents...and downloaded core temp to monitor the cpu temp @ http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/. Same problem shut down and no charging even though it was running cool.

Finally I started changing settings and it seems to be working and charging just fine.

Here's the answer:
1. Set your power scheme to balanced
2. Open Toshiba Assistant from start
3. In Toshiba Assistant open CPU tab and set to low power.
4. When asked "restart now?" say no and shut it down using the start menu.
When you start it back up you will see the change.

Changing either one of these settings brings the problems back. I can't explain it.

I HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU!

I just can't afford another laptop right now.

P.S. even at low power my system works fine...It's a little slower @ start-up but otherwise good.
