I just bought a 6160 alpha keypad and installed it, I powered it up and there was no display. The armed and power lights are flashing rapidly. I tried pressing the No. 1 and 3 right after power up with no results. All lights are lit. Am I missing a step or do I have a defective unit? Please help, thank you.

Your keypad needs to be addressed. Within 30 seconds of powering up the panel, go to the keypad and hold down the 1 and 3 buttons. Most likely, Address 31 will pop up on the display. Push 1 then 6 then *(star).

Address 16 is the default address for the first keypad on the system.

Hi Mark, sorry its been awhile since I had this issue. I kinda gave up on the problem for a bit. Anyways, I tried what you recommended but still nothing. All lights are on with the red and green lights flickering.

I have just fired up my Vista 15p panel and my keypad has power and is backlit however I am not getting any text on the keypad. I have checked and double checked and the wiring is all to the spec. sheet....

Your keypad needs to be addressed. Within 30 seconds of powering up the panel, go to the keypad and hold down the 1 and 3 buttons. Address 31 will pop up on the display. Push 1 then 6 then *(star).

That should do it. The address may pop up with a different number than 31. As long as you address it to 16 you're good to go. Address 16 is the default address for the first keypad on the system.

Hope this helps.
