I have a new executive 56 and it keeps surging on low speed. I had it bench tested from distributor. It doesn't have an airlock. Testing at the board doesn't show any issues. Any Ideas?

water pumps that have this indication suffer for restricted input flow of the water if you are using a pool cleaner it could be a fault in that operation, or hose collapsing, or a problem in the filtration equipment while you have had the pump bench tested you may have to get in the pool expert to determine the problem with the pump in operation

The pump has been louder for a couple of weeks and

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It could be the pump is bound up but it is more likely the motor is failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft where it passes thru the pump and motor and look for signs of rust from a pump seal leak. If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage. If you wish to continue to try to repair it yourself please comment with any questions you have as you work thru the pump and motor.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

Motor hums but does not turn freely, can you turn

no! You have to remove the pump end to find the shift, You may look between the pump and motor and find the shift splice and set screws that need to be tighted up.

How do you take this pump apart so you can replace

I just did this.
Take the screws off the outer cover fo the wet end. That will expose the impeller.
At the other end of the pump is a small metal cap in the middle. Pry that off with a screwdriver. That reveals the shaft of the motor which has a slot in it. This allows you to hold the shaft still with a large screwdriver.
While someone holds the shaft with a big screwdriver, you rotate the impeller counter clockwise to unscrew it off the motor shaft.
In my case the impeller was so caked onto the shaft with rust that we could not loosen it. We broke the impeller and still could not unscrew it. The screwdriver keeps jumping out of the slot in the shaft.
So the next step was to take the shaft out of the motor. On the far end of the motor are 4 small looking bolt heads. Undo those. They go right through the motor into the 4 legs of the wet end.
Stand the motor up with the wet end up. Pull hard to pull the wet end motor cover off the motor and you will then have the wet end and armature of the motor in your hands. Heavy.
Place some wood into a large vice and then grip the big silver part of the armature in the vice. Then unscrew the impeller.
I got this far tonight and the bearing at the wet end is hard to turn and is the reason for the failure of the pump. I am not sure of the bearing can be pulled off without special equipment.

My new waterway executive 56 4 hp dual speed motor blew a 30 amp fuse when i started it for the first time. what is the problem ?

OK 750 watts per HP = 3000 watts or about 30 amps at 115VAC. You will need 40 amp breaker for that pump and No. 8 wire between the breaker and pump if you are using 115VAC. The inrush current on the motor would be high enough to trip a 30 amp breaker. On the other hand, if it is running on 220VAC you may have the motor wired wrong. Read the instructions that came with the motor.
