Goldstar DH304 Dehumidifier - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Dehumidifier water is not collecting in the bucket
Check the collection bucket, to make sure it is installed tightly. If that checks out OK, the drain hole or tube that dumps water in to the bucket is clogged. To clear the clog, remove the bucket and look up under the top were the bucket rests. There will be a hose or a drain tube, Using an 18" long plastic Zip Tie or something similar (NO wire coat hangers), that will fit into the hole or tube, carefully insert The Zip Tie and push it into the hole or tube. The Zip Tie will reach a bend in the tube that you need to gingerly, work it past the bend. Once the Zip Tie bottoms out or you run out of Zip Tie, slowly pull it back out, while rotating it. This will dislodge the clog. Once you have the Zip Tie almost removed, be prepared for some water to follow.
The above should solve your problem. Hope this info helped you.
Does not extract moisture from the air. It runs
Fred, here is an in home test, that will determine whether your unit is working properly or not.
Please the unit in the bathroom, plug it in, turn it ON and set the humidity level at the LOWEST setting. Turn the shower On hot enough to generate steam. Do Not turn the bathroom's exhaust fan ON and make sure any window(s) is closed. As you exit the bathroom, close the door. Wait 15 to 20 minutes before reentering the bathroom. Then turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for 5 more minutes. Then, check the water collection bucket for any signs of water. If you find water in it, it's working as it should. It may simply have been a case that the humidity extraction level was originally set to high.
If you found no signs of water in the bucket, the humidity sensor in the unit may have failed or the compressor is low on refrigerant. Either one is repairable, but the cost of troubleshooting it, finding the part and the time repair it, may exceed the cost of a new unit. As, yours is a 4 years old unit.
Hope this helpd you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.
Why is my dehumidifier icing up.
The room temperature is probably too cold, or there's poor airflow
Here's some info that should help you figure out what's causing the problem:
If
the evaporator coil is frosting completely and evenly, the most common
cause is that the room temperature is too cold. Most dehumidifiers are
not meant to be used when the room temperature drops much below 70°F and
certainly not below 65°F (depending on humidity). There are however
some models called "basement" dehumidifiers which are.
Another
possible cause on standard models is poor air flow through the unit. If
the fan motor is not turning fast enough (or at all) or the evaporator,
condenser or filter (if used) being plugged can also cause this symptom .
I have a Goldstar Dehumidifier,
Kreston, check the humidity level you have it set on. It may be that there is not enough humidity in the air for what you have it set on and it automatically shuts OFF.
Keep in mind, whatever level (percentage) you have it set on, is what it will maintain, not remove.
For example - if you have it set on 65%, that's pretty high level of moisture/humidity. But, it's not how much it's going to remove from the household air. Unless, the humidity level rises above 65%. Then it will only remove enough to maintain 65%.
If you want to remove humidity/moisture, you have to lower the setting below 45 to 50%, Try that and I think you'll meet with success.
Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.
My Goldstar dehumidifier model DH304 runs, but
If the room air is less than the set air, then there is no water in the
bucket, because there is almost no humidity in the air. If it is winter,
there is likely not enough humidity in the air to have water collect in
the bucket.
A dehumidifier will only pick up humidity out of warm air. If you are
running a dehumidifier in your basement in the winter, the room may be
damp, but too cold for the dehumidifier to pull out the humidity.
Try running the unit in the bathroom after having a hot shower without
the bathroom fan on. If working correctly the unit should draw water.
Other things that can cause problems: 1.Check to see if the air filter is dirty and/or blocked.
2. The room temperature might be too low, (below 60 degrees Fahrenheit )
3. Check to make sure that there is no obstruction to the unit that might be causing poor airflow circulation.
Hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem.
I would like to SEE
My DH 304 is a hand-me-down so I don't have a manual but it did come with a hose attachment which is plastic tube with a threaded end to which you attach a hose. The other end of the tube goes through a hole in the back of the unit and then through a foam screen inside the unit to slip over the drain plug. Aligning the tube and the drain plug can be tricky; it is helpful to remove the bucket to see if you're getting the tube onto the drain plug. Once you have the tube attached to the drain plug, align the tube in the hole in the rear of the unit so that the tab on the tube is inserted into the slot at the hole in the back of the unit.
It starts with control set to max and it runs a
one of 3 possible problems, the control is faulty, you can bypass this with a jumper wire and see if it stays running, the condenser coil is dirty and is not cooling the compressor correctly and the condenser and evaporator coils need to be cleaned,i would do this first before bypassing the control, then possibly its low on refrigerant and the low pressure switch is shutting it down or the switch itself is faulty, please rate this if it helped you, thank you
Won't stay on
The fan turns on, runs for a few minutes, then turns off?
It's your humidity sensor. I'm still trying to find a replacement part, but you can trick it into running by removing the front panel above the water collection tank. You'll see a little sensor mashed into the coils. Remove it, unplug your red and black stripe wires, tie them together, push them back into the middle slot (the same one the black stripe came out of). Soldering the connection would be best, yet I didn't have a soldering gun so I just mashed it in there.
Unit works like a charm....yet the dial on the front for the "control" of how much humidity you want to remove is bypassed.
Side note: Not sure what saftey implications this solution produces, yet the float sensor still works in this setup. Also I don't beleive just tying the two wires together will work, as there is a resistor in the switch. The red wire is clearly the switch leg, resistance is measured through the black and the black stripe. You have to keep the black wire in it's original spot to force the voltage through the resistor, and then when you tie the red and black stripe together, you're getting the "turn on signal" all the time, while keeping the required resistance. I did not try tying all wires together minus the resistor, as the wiring diagram clearly showed one and it was easy enough to keep it in the loop.
Good luck.
I don't have the manual and need to replace and/or
if this is the correct picture - pull out the collection bucket and reach just inside the opening at the top (just at the bottom of the grill in the front) the filter is plastic and pulls straight down. Clean it tin soapy water, dry it, and slide it back it place.
Is Part # 3850A20500F one of this model? my unit
I found the model # on my Goldstar DH304 at the top of a sticker on the inside of the unit behind the bucket. Mine has stopped working too. I'm awaiting an answer to my problem but after some research it seems that unless the filter and/or coils simply need cleaned, there is lttle that can be economically repaired. Good luck.
