Try a different DVD to see if it is the Blu Ray disc.
If you still get the line, then put it on VCR, Cable, or Satellite input to see if it is the TV. If it is the DVD, power down the unit and power back on to see if resolves itself. If you still see the white line, then the pickup laser lens is defective meaning your player is fu.k.d up. Take the thing back to the store for refund or exchange if your within your 30 day window and you got the receipt. Otherwise you got to contact the manufacturer if your within your one year window. If this thing is too old, then you got to throw it away and wait until Black Friday to score you a good deal on another Blu Ray player. CNN says retailers are hurting for business this year so don't be surprised to see Blu Ray players retailing for $150-$200.

Either get a disc cleaner if there's any scratches or remove the top of the DVD player case and spray with canned air and clean tiyn glass sensor with alcohol on a q-ti.
If it's DVD issues like scratches, oddly enough you can spread vasoline on the surface of the DVD to fill in the cracks and then wipe it clean with a dry cloth.
It often helps restore the originality of a DVD.

Samsung BD-P1400 Blu_Ray DVD player will not turn on
Hi, unfortunately, this is a serious control
fault and you will need to replace the main PC Board in this unit in order to restore proper
functions. The stand by mode has be initiated due major IC damage across the main board(PCB).
Simply replacing this board will fix this issue.i will post a link to the actual part you will need to purchase for this repair. if you are uncomfortable with
disassembling this device, i would
recommend contacting
Samsung for a repair
ticket and a near by repair depot location in your area for this repair.

The latest upgrade is ver 1.9. It is a downloadable ISO in zip file format. Samsung recommends Nero to burn this. Burn this to a CD-R not a DVD. I also suggest burning at a slow speed... IE 10x and trying high quality media IE .... Verbatim. 90% of the problems are related to poor quality media or too high a burn speed. This disk has to be highly accurate for it to work correctly. I've updated over 40 of these particular players.

There are a couple sites I found that offer the codes for that player and the BD-P1000. I am not sure if I am allowed to post the links for those sites but the link to the site zimcloud posted is one of the places I saw it listed. You can google the model and region code and a list of sites come up.

You may need to go to Samsung's web site and get a firmware update for your player. Blu-Ray's compatibility is not guaranteed for all disks and Samsung updates the
firmware for the various players for disc compatibility on a regular basis.
I just looked on their site and I saw they have a version 2.0 update for the US and Canada. Click on the link above and it should download. You may also need to get the firmware update document for instructions. That may solve the problem.
Cheers
