Sony KDL-46XBR5 46 in. LCD HDTV Questions & Answers
I have a SONY KDL-46XBR5. When I turn the power
This is what's happening: a part from your tv has failed; when you try to start the tv the failed part acts as a short and draws a lot of power, way more than it's supposed to do; when this happens the voltage on the power source drops - this triggers the autoprotection system of the power source which shuts it down - the standby led goes red; when the power source stops the power to its autoprotection system also stops, so it remains powered only by the charge in the filtering capacitors; when these capacitors naturally discharge the autoprotection system gets disabled , the power source restarts and the cycle begins again.
Since you get an active background lighting - the screen gets gray - it means that the power source, inverter and most likely T-con boards are ok. That leaves only the image or logic boards as the one s with the faulty part. The only way to know for sure is to open the tv and test them. This is a job for a pro, there's nothing more you can do to it.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
Before going further; try a hard reset first. If it does not help you, replace the main digital board. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; visit the site linked here.
I have a KDL 46XBR5
The reddish blotchy screen also had a series of horizontal lines/sections of screen on occasion. I was able to determine that the ground wire screws were loose (loosened and retightend all of them) and a few of the connections between boards (the wires/plugs) were loose. Seems to have resolved the issue without having to replace any boards/caps etc. I would try this free 20 minute fix before searching out a new board.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board....

SONY KDL52XBR3 TURN OFF AND STAND BY LED BLINK 7 TIMES IS AU BOARD BAD OR POWER SUPPLY.
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

Tv got a green light on but the TVs won't come on at all checked batteries in the remote all good what else can I do?
Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

What is the error code for 5 blinks for a Sony KDL70R520A LED TV?
The most common defect that causes a 5 blink error on this model is the T-Con board. This board is now discontinued. You might be able to find one on Ebay or Amazon. If the T-con board does not fix the issue, then your panel is defective and your TV will need to be replaced.
