I have a memorex LCD
Your LCD lamp may have burnt out or the component usually a driver transistor that drives the lamp to glow may have been defective. Some of LCD have fuses on this section that automatically opens when there was a problem. A qualified electronic service technician could figure out your problem right away if you don't have any experience in electronics troubleshooting.

I had this exact same problem after setting this model DVD player up. I put in a disc thinking I would listen to the movie while working on some other projects and would call tech support in the AM.
Putting in the disc fixed the problem. If there is a disc in the system, I do not have this issue. If thee is not, it does the same thing while it is on.

I have a MMP9390 player,
There is a reset button on the right side (as you hold it looking at the screen) You need a pin to push it. Be careful, there is a microphone on the exact opposite side that is the exact same size.

Unfortunately from what your are describing the problem will be in the main power section of the tv. This means a trip to the repair shop.
The actual problem could be fairly simple but the real problem is how much will it cost to get it fixed. So you need to figure out if you have any warrenty either factory or extended store. If you do then get it to the shop. If not covered You need to do a few things first. You want to know what the replacement cost of a new tv is, and then you want to start getting a few repair estimates. If the repair costs are too high you get a expensive used unwarrantied tv that may break again. The hard part is figuring out at what point you need to just junk it and buy the new one if the value of the repairs is less than the new one. That's really your only reference if it is worth repairing. It is definitely repairable but there is no sense spending $400 for a new main board if the new tv is $450 as an example.
If you can find a good repair shop that actualy repairs then the repair cost can be cheap. Unfortunately a lot of repair shops just swap out boards so you spend $400 for a new board when the problem was a 50 cent part.

My 19" tv will not
Hello
First check its speaker for any damage. For this place your ear very near to its speaker side of the TVs cabin, and switch on the TV with its power switch, and listen whether there is any sign of sound like a "thumb". If it is there and there is no sound output, either your settigns for sound or the sound output IC inside your TV may be faulty. If ther is no "thumb" sound at all, the speaker has damaged. Replacing the speaker, in this case, will solve your problem. If there is a headphone socket at the front panel of your TV, connect a headphone to it and listen whether there is sound coming through it or not. If there is sound through the headphone, and not from the speaker, headphone socket is fauty. Replace it will solve your problem. If there is no sound from headphone also, Output IC inside your TV is damaged. Replacing that IC with same type and number will retify your problem. Take a look at the settings also. If in the settings mute is in ON position, there will be no sound from the speaker. Check all these. If you need anymore assistance, feel free to contact me through Fixya. Ok.
