Mapsource not recognizing Garmin type files

.img files do not open directly in Mapsource. You will need one of the many freewares available on the net. I use MapSetToolKit. The file is available at http://cypherman1.googlepages.com/. You can find out how to use this software from http://cypherman1.googlepages.com/intruction_en.

I think that you are probable running two diferent versions of the GPSmap 60CSx's firmware. Go to Garmin ( http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/de/service/geraetesoftware/ ) and download the WEB Updater software for free, then you just plug your unit into the PC and let the updater software check the firmware version, then if its out of date the program offers to update it for you. It honestly couldnt be easier.

The coordinates that I get are 30 metres off from the other GPS units that we geocache with. My settings must be off.

Yes, have you enabled WAAS on your 60CSx? WAAS is an acronym for Wide Area Augmentation System, according to the instruction manual an FAA funded service to improve overall integrity of the GPS signal through North America.

If you are in an area which is not serviced by ground stations, having WAAS enabled may degrade the signal from the GPS satellites. Try enabling or disabling this feature.

To do so, acess the System Startup Page. On the Setup Menu page, highlight the System icon and press Enter. WAAS is the second available setting on this page.

Make sure your batteries are fresh; I prefer alkalines in this model. Set the battery type in the System Setup Page, same page as noted for WAAS above.

Another thought is to be sure you have the latest Garmin software installed. Visit their site to download the latest and greatest, free, of course.

Not acquire sattelites

place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this

from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on

When using tracks how do you watch the trail you are leaving

On the Map Setup page under Track change the option for Track Log from Off to any other desired zoom level. Moreover, go to Tracks page and choose Setup. Tick 'Wrap When Full' and choose a Color that would be more visible/desirable Color for your track.

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.
