Push the start button and start up begins but then
You need to determine if it is hardware or software. Try booting from your restore CD. If the unit will boot from the CD then you just need to repair your OS installation. If it will boot from the CD then try going into BIOS setup. If you are able to access the BIOS leave it in there for about 1 hour to make sure there is not a hardware issue such as an overheating CPU.
Open the cover and remove all of the "Dust Bunnies" that are collected inside the case - look closely at the cooling fins of the CPU if they are clogged your CPU will shut down to prevent damage. I use a tooth pick to clean out the fins of gunk - especially if there is a smoker in the house

you need to reinstall the audio drivers. they are not saved in a reformat. Select device manager to look at the audio that you have. e.g realtek then if you have discs with the drivers just run that or go to the website for the brand and get the driver. Download to your desktop where you can see it , then double click to unpack the files and run them. They install automatically.
How do I install more memory for HP Pavilion
Your computer can hold up to 4 gigs of RAM.
To upgrade to 4 gigs, you will need 4 sticks of 1gig PC2-3200 RAM.
With your computer off and unplugged, hit the power button to discharge the stored energy in the capacitors. Take off the case cover and find where the RAM is installed.
At each end of the RAM there will be a little clip, push it away from the RAM. After both sides are unclipped, you can just pull the RAM out.
Installing the RAM is just the reverse. Find the notch where the copper connectors are and match it up to where you are going to install the RAM...it will only install 1 way.
Place the RAM in its slot, then firmly push at each end until you hear the clips engage.
Put the computer back together and hook it back up. Turn it on and you should be good to go. If not, you may need to reset your BIOS. To reset the BIOS you can unplug the computer from the wall and remove the (waffle style) battery that is on the motherboard for a few minutes.
Hope this helps.

You could check to see if the memory chips inside have dirty contacts. Happens often, basically you unplug it, remove the side cover, find the memory chips, try to remove them but basically just work them in and out a couple times to clean the contact points, reinstall and it might work. This happened to mine this am, worth a try.

Hi, This normally means that a windows file from the system32 folder is missing or corrupt. You will have repair that by using your operating system cd and go to repair when prompted. If this does not work you may have to install a clean copy of your operating system.
I have bought a set of recovery disk from
Presumably, you bought _exactly_ the correct set of Recovery Disks for your specific HP.
Sounds like "hardware" problems:
* loose cable between motherboard and disk-drive,
* bad RAM (download and run the free 'MEMTEST86+' software to "test" your RAM),
* bad disk-drive,
* leaking capacitors on your motherboard
(do a visual inspection, looking for brown "gunk" on top of a capacitor, and looking for bulging capacitors)
* overheating motherboard

Perhaps it's booting something else, or preoccupied by whatever got loaded while you weren't running an antivirus? Try booting a LiveCD or an antivirus Live USB drive, and seeing if things seem normal from then?

I'm thinking you have the 64-bit Win7. otherwise your system should boot with VGA capabilities.
I suspect a combination of driver issues including storage ( SATA , RAID ).
Install the updated drivers and do windows update.
You should have
updated your BIOS to the latest version. And at a minimum have the Storage, Graphics, and network drivers available on an external source.
Here is the link to the HP drivers. Get the PC back up with your old operating system before trouble shooting with Win 7 if you don't have video.

Hello,
I would recommend Nvidia graphics card.
It is one of the best, and compatible with your computer.
I would recommend one of the most recent models.
Check with your local computer shops and they will assist you in getting a good recent model.
Thank you for using Fixya,
Kenneth.
Getting an error message while
If the error is the inability to properly record or copy a file, the problem is most likely a bad memory chip. If the system cannot write to a specific address in proper sequence, then it will not detect a bad chip, but will give an error when recording. Chance are, the MB will not cause that kind of problem. Also, if you can borrow an XP or Vista (whichever you're running) system disk, try to do a slow format of the hard drive to make sure it's not bad. Most restore disks use a quick format routine to set up the disk. Finally, if your system is more than 2 years old, I suggest you try replacing the DVD or CD drive. Also, a good cleaning to remove dust and such is a good idea, but most likely the problem is the computer memory chip.
