After uninstall and installing HP 5510 can not fax or scan

There is a utility called Microsoft Fit it that might be able to help uninstall the older version of the HP Photosmart software from your PC. It is pretty strait forward to run. Once it is done try installing the software again. Please let me know how it goes. Thanks!

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents.
You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary.
Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, the follow the onscreen instructions to install the software on your computer.

First turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable.
Then open up the printer covers as much as possible and use a can of compressed air to spray into all the areas around the paper feed tray and the paper output.
Hopefully this will dislodge any scraps of paper or dust which may be interfering with the paper microsensors inside.

How to anable my scanner

With HP, it is easiest to use the controlling software that you can get from thier site, for free. Run from a computer and not from the printer itself (easier).

What application are you using to initiate the scan? If you have the HP software go to document viewer to initiate a scan. Have you tried initiating a scan from MS Word for example?
If you are using the HP application check all the options.
It sounds like it doesn't know what software to associate with the scan, perhaps you or your better half has changed the file format it saves to (jpg/bmp/pdf etc) and that has confused things otherwise I can't think why this might happen.
If all else fails deinstall and reinstall the software that came with the device.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

How do I change the cartridge

  • Turn on your printer and lift the access door. The print carriage will move to the center.


  • Once the print carriage has stopped moving, remove the empty cartridge by pushing down on it and pulling it towards you.
  • Remove the replacement cartridge from its packaging. Peel the pink tape away from the bottom while holding the cartridge by the sides.
  • Hold the replacement cartridge with the label on the top. Slide cartridge into the appropriate slot. Insert cartridge at a slight angle, then apply pressure until it snaps into place.
    • Close the print carriage access door.
    • Align the printer if it prompts you and if not just align it manually

    Will not accept incoming faxes

    Have you set the Fax to Auto-answer or is it waiting for you to manually answer the fax? Change this by pressing Setup and Press 3, Press 3 again. Press the right arrow to toggle On or Off.

    Make sure that the rings to answer is set appropriately. Press Setup 3 4 to change.
    If you have a PBX or ISDN converter phone system, check that you are using the correct phone jack - for phones and faxes.

    Do you have a voicemail service on the line? This will force you to receive faxes manually and only when you are present.

    If you have an answering machine connected to the line, check that the answering machine is not the problem by disconnecting it and trying to receive a fax. Long welcome messages can make the calling fax machine hang up early. Insufficient time between the end of the message and the beep can make it impossible for the OfficeJet to spot the fax tones; the same is true with loud messages.
    If this is the problem, record your message again, keeping it short (10 seconds but speak softly and slowly).

    If you have a distinctive ring on the fax line, make sure that the OfficeJet is programmed to recognize the ring (some ring patterns cannot be interpreted and you'll need to contact your phone company to change it).

    Check that other computer hardware is not causing an issue (modem with auto-answer, other interference). Unplug everything except the OfficeJet and try to receive a fax to check for interference. Then reconnect one item at a time and try getting a fax again to determine which item is causing the probelm.

    The Print Diagnostic Utility diagnoses and resolves common printing problems and communication problems, including:

    If you prefer, you can skip this information and go directly to downloading the tool .

    • Connectivity :
      • USB: Ensures that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
      • Network: Ensures that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly. If the tool detects a network connectivity problem, you will be prompted to run the HP Network Diagnostic Utility for better results.
    • Spooler : Automatically restarts the print spooler, which sends print jobs from the computer to the product, if it has been stopped.
    • Online status : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
    • Device manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
    • Print queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
    • Port : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
    • Driver : Checks for alternate-driver settings.
    • Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
    • Default printer : Checks the default printer setting and prompts to select the HP product as default (optional).

    Ink fades as it prints.

    hi,
    Remove the ink cartridge and using a cotton ear bud dipped in water lightly, rub off the ink clots, if any.
    Try printing again. if problem not solved, then check your printer with some other cartridges and replace it if found some problem with your print cartridges.

    HAVE A 5510 SALL IN

    The HP website says that Windows 7 should install the driver automatically once you connect it with a USB cable, no CD or download necessary.
