My Cyberhome DVR 1600 is dead.

If it is powering up it is NOT the power supply that is at fault. If the door won't open it is likely the belt that moves the tray. Unplug the unit and remove the screws holding the case shut. On the left side you will see a metal plate that is the top hold down for the DVDs. Remove the four screws and pull up on the plate. There will be some resistance as the top spinner is held in place to the spindle by a magnet. Plug in the unit but DO NOT touch anything on the right side where the power comes in! Power on the unit and hit the eject button. If the tray slides out now you are partly in luck. With the tray ejected unplug the power. Partially push in the tray and look along the front. You will see a small pulley (motor) and a large pulley. There will be a "rubber band" looking drive belt there. Likely that drive belt is dry rotted. Getting one is the trick. I'd suggest rescuing one from an old CD/DVD drive from a computer.

Cant get picture or anything through the

No picture at all even when discs are loaded in the DVD unit? Sounds like an AV switching fault on your TV, not the fact of 'going digital'. The easiest and cheapest way to determine this is to connect the unit to a different TV with AV inputs, to see if there is picture/sound. If so, the unit is OK, and your original TV may have a fault which will require attention by a qualified technician in an authorised service workshop. Unless the TV is a few years old, in which case it would be more economical to replace it with a newer model and/or more user options. If it is not a set with a digital tuner, just analogue, consider upgrading it.

However, if connecting the unit to a different TV produces the same result (no picture etc), then the unit itself is faulty, and again, consider the workshop idea, but if you decide to go this way, get a quote and a second opinion from them first before allowing them to go ahead with repairs.

It could be something really simple.

Cannot format an empty dvd

Only DVD-RW discs can be formatted. If it is a DVD-R and you have already tried recording on it, the disc will be unusable. If the disk is not formatting, it might be defective. Try using another disk in the drive to make sure it isn't your DVD drive itseld that is broken.

When I insert a DVD it says No disc

This is caused by an open (or bad) 10UF capacitor in the power supply. The voltage rating on this cap is too low, consequently, many units suffer the same problem. I replaced my with a 15Volt cap and the unit has been working for over 2 years now.

Will not power on

Hi ,

Here are some DIY steps that may help you fixing the problem.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I've advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts on the power supply, you may visit the link http://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact on the board, don't attempt to touch anything because there somefatal components stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only.

The next steps should be done by an expert or qualified technician because isolating the problem on the power supply is quite technical.

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope it may help you.

Give a thumbs up if you find it useful.

Thanks for using fixya.

When plug in making a humming noise and cant used

From your description you have a power supply problem, if the remote won't do anything try turning the power on the DVD machine, if that fails the unit will need service or replacement.

Hi.

As other combo models the Magnavox MWC24T5 does not have a video output. The only options offered are audio/video input at the front of TV and audio coax output at the back of TV. There is no video output connector on this TV.

You cannot use this TV to transfer movied from VCR to external DVD RW.

Here manuals:
