How is it connected to the TV, have you checked the connection/cable to the tv (unless its connected through the aerial in which case it isn't that)

You really should not have a problem with a different manufacturer. It is common to have one manufacturer contract several companies to make the same board.

Check your power outlet for any loose contacts. Look for any loose contacts in RC jacks/sockets/Cable. Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player.

If it is in warranty return it---parts for the DVD unit are not available--they would have to replace the entire DVD unit inside the set.

Try to check the power supply output side where anything could came into contact with positive and negative line for which when you press play button then it shuts down.

RCA video cables handle analog signals. HDMI cables carry digital video signals. You need a converter. If you are using a component video converter, check if you swapped two of the three RCA video cables. (There are some A/V projectors that can do the translation of RCA and HDMI internally. Most modern tv remotes are not normally designed to be repaired. You will possibly need to replace it. there are plenty of cheaper after market version that will do the job just as well. Your other option, and yes I know this is a silly answer, when you want to mute the TV is to simply press the volume down button to zero then turn it back up when you want sound.
