Just stopped working...shows my car
It appears that the unit is frozen.
First of all remove the SD card and shut the unit down, wait 5 minutes and restart it. If it's the same then reset the unit (how you can do that is explained in the unit's manual). If it's the same then remove the battery, wait 1 hour and start it again. If even after that it's the same then your only remaining option is to update the firmware: go here and follow the instructions
http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
If you can't update it or it behaves the same after the update then the defect is hardware and fixing it would cost you more than a new unit.
Just junk it and buy a new one.

Garmin Etrex Legend powers up for 1.5 seconds then shuts down.
Yes, this problem might been caused by the launch of a new satellite
earlier this year. As soon as your unit gets a fix from the new
satellite, it causes this problem. Simple immediate fix: disable WAAS
in the setup. Permanent fix: go to Garmin website and update your
unit's software and it will fix this temporary problem. Enjoy your GPS
and don't forget to come back and tell us if this fixed your problem.

I have a Garmin GPS 76 that needs a new screen,
As in cell phones, it contains a display device that you may be able to swap out when it fails. Shop aroun online in a place like ebay and you might get a replacement. Just be careful when you take it apart. At writing time I couldn't get a manual for it.

GARMIN NUVI 850 AM SCREEN KEEPS LOCKING UP
Garmin used to have good products, but seem to be slipping badly lately. I have an 850 and it does the same thing. I have downloaded all new software that is suppose to fix it, but it is still happening. Great they have a removable battery now. Little did we know that it is removable so we can reboot the piece of junk!
Try the latest software and keep youe dingers crossed.

Garmin Nuvi 770, Unit powers on, touch screen
There is a reset button under the frame around the screen. Carefully pry the frame up, there is a fingernail slot at one point. Once up, push the reset button and you may be back in business. If reset does not do it, you will have to go to garmin.com and speak with a tech from the service center on how to proceed.

Repair Garmin street pilot 2720
i did 2 things, one of which solved the problem. i saw that lots of people were trying to fix this by addressing the cable and plug, but this was not fixing the issue. i began to clean the connectors (with fine sandpaper) but they looked ok anyway, and also the restart issue was not happening when the gps was in motion - it was also happening when everything was still, so the cable could not be the problem. the second thing i did was, i went to garmin.com and did a software update (not the maps) I just went here
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=931 and this thing did everything automatically. I just got back from a short 30 min trip and the unit did not reset itself anymore. I have to assume the problem was in the software. go to garmin.com and use the WebUpdater to update firmware and stuff on your gps. Oh, one thing i can't get it to work is the voice driving directions now, i'll try to fix that too, but for now i'm happy the unit does not reset itself anymore.
