Toshiba TN61X81 61" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
My TN61X81 cannot start. When
we have the same problem with ours, not sure what exactly is wrong with it, but what we do is unplug the tv, take the back bottom panel off, and press down on all the circuit boards. After we do this the tv comes on and works fine, but we have to do this almost every time we try to turn it on. Not a permanent fix but that should get you through at least for a while hope this helped

Toshiba TN61x81-- after convergence IC's replced
Please don't be offended by my suggestions if you are experienced at circuit repair.
You may have a cold solder joint or bridged joint. Check and re-check your connectors for placement. It is normal to have to adjust the convergence and focus after replacing the IC's. There should be a row of focus knobs (ususally covered by a piece of black tape) with the screen controls.
The convergence IC's won't affect the visibility of a color only the alignment.
I have a Toshiba rear projection TV with cabinet
Hello Christinegun:
No your tubes are not going out, Seems your having a horizonal deflection problem, low High voltage, One or maybe two of your HV scan Capacitors are leaky, have a technician check them for discoloration and swelling. If any are have them replaced. Also have him measure the HV at each picture tube to make sure no perticular tube is causing more load then need on the horizontal circuit and check all soldering around the flyback transformer.
Please leave comment if this helps or answers your problem..

I am repairing my sister TV {Toshiba TN61X81}.
The easiest way I have found to set the screen controls is to tune into an old black and white show, turn the green up until you see retrace then slowly turn it down until it just dissapears then adjust the blue and red for a true black and white picture.
Has sound, has power indicator steady on but no Picture
When you say they are off, do their filaments in the neck of the tube light? If not I would suspect a Horizontal and or HV problem. If they do have filament, you could have a Vertical Deflection problem. You could also turn up one of the screen controls a little to see if the screen lights up at all or if a line only appears. Do not leave it turned up because it could burn the phospher on the tube face.
The focus / screen block is on the lower right as you face the front. It is exsposed when you remove the front panel. You can try to go to Toshiba .com and see if they will give you options to down-load the manual.
That is all I got for now,
Hope this helps

Sound but no image
I had the same problem with my sis tv. You have to open the front grill and see if the filament on the neck of the crts is lit. If it not you may want to check the horizontal ouput transistor(Q416- for open or short) and its related components around it. If it lit you may want to replace the vertical output IC,Q301 and check the related components around it.
The horizontal and vertical output is on the deflection board where the flyback transformer.. you need to open the back of tv and take the board out to check...
