Re: Convergence Circuitry Physical Location
Hello look at circuit boards it is the area with a large metal looking heat sink with fins with large black IC's mounted on one side of the heat sink . These are your convergence IC amplifiers you can't miss them as they are the largest intergrated circuits in the television.

we have the same problem with ours, not sure what exactly is wrong with it, but what we do is unplug the tv, take the back bottom panel off, and press down on all the circuit boards. After we do this the tv comes on and works fine, but we have to do this almost every time we try to turn it on. Not a permanent fix but that should get you through at least for a while hope this helped
could be adjust ment required on the focus block a part of the high voltage circuitry.. ususlly located..if you take of front grill, than remove a small panel..has 3-6 small knobs on it. Bottom three usuallt focus, one for each of the three lamps. or could be convergence misaligned..maybe time for a convergence repair. Two large black STK chips on main board.
Common problems with the chassis used in this model for complaints such as this are caused by damage in the convergence circuitry (since there are three separate picture tubes, each mounted in a physical location different from the others, the light each tube "throws" on the screen falls in a different physical location on the screen; the electronics of the convergence circutry force the red & blue light information to "converge" on the image produced by the green tube, which being physically located in the center of the other two is the "master" image), usually associated with the IC's used as amplifiers for the convergence circuits (this model uses STK392-110's) and with the high-wattage, low ohmage resistors used as biasing components for these amps
Please don't be offended by my suggestions if you are experienced at circuit repair.
You may have a cold solder joint or bridged joint. Check and re-check your connectors for placement. It is normal to have to adjust the convergence and focus after replacing the IC's. There should be a row of focus knobs (ususally covered by a piece of black tape) with the screen controls.
The convergence IC's won't affect the visibility of a color only the alignment.
If the convergence is out on that set you most likely do not need to make an adjustment the circuit will need to be repaired. There is a stk on the convergence amp board that needs to be replaced. A good tv shop will run you somewhere between $300-$500 to do the repair
You need the original remote control to adjust the convergence..If you tried the original remote, and still have that problem,I would advise you not to spend another dime on it...You can shop around and buy a new big screen tv with 3-5 year warranty, and less headaches..Check vance Baldwin electronics in Georgia to see if they can order a remote for you..Good luck..
