Could be the power cord or plug are defective. As I recall, this is an older mechanical machine (old but Good!) so it is probably worth fixing.

You may not be using the correct presser foot for your machine. Sewing Machine FeetYou may be using a low shank when your machine needs a high shank.

If the needle keeps hitting at one place only, make sure the feed dogs are UP, these are the little teeth you see just level with the metal plate under the needle. If they are below the plate, you need to press a button or lever to bring them up level. Make sure your bobbin is wound evenly and not too tight, or loose, make sure you have inserted it into the bobbin case the right way round, with enough spare thread at the end, about four inches. Hold the thread coming from the NEEDLE in your left hand, do not pull too tight, just a little slack. It has to go down into the bobbin area and pick up the bobbin thread. Now turn the hand wheel at the right end of the machine slowly, until you see the bobbin thread come up through the plate. Pull both threads towards the back of the machine, and you are ready to sew. I do not know the Kenmore, but this is basic advice for most machines. Good Luck.

It might just need a very good cleaning on the inside- you said it is an old machine - is the motor located on the outside of the machine? I. Some of the older machines a lubricant is used and it comes in a tube - check the manual on this Find a good generic repair man - good luck

If in storage, the old oil has probably solidified. Clean and oil it. If still stuck, direct heat from hand-held hairdryer into internal mechanism to loosen.

The 1471 is getting on in years. It is not uncommon for the PC board to develop a fault. It can be replaced, however, cost is prohibitive unless you can find a repairer with a 'good' used board. Good luck

Wow. If I understand your attempt at English. Your machine made a noise and now won't sew or pick up the bobbin thread. First change your needle and make sure it's full inserted and correctly oriented in the needle bar. Do a test stitch on scrap fabric. If you still have problems.. check the timing. The shuttle hook should just be starting to pass the needle scarf when the needle is at the lowest point of travel. I hope that helps you. Good luck.

yes, pressure foot lever should stay raised, this sounds like the spring has broken in your machine. if you are comfortable with delving into the machine you could open it up and take a look. alternatively take it to a sewing repair man and get it serviced as well as clean and lube.

According to the description for the 15218 sewing machine, it has a one-step buttonhole function. You should be able to put on the automatic buttonhole foot, insert the button behind the presser foot, and set the pattern selector dial to "BH"- see p. 66 of the manual at http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0909499.pdf

Take out bobbin and reinsert it according to manual. Also completely rethread the machine.

The standard size is Class A or 15.
