The peice of plastic is probably the power off switch lever. That ensures the machine will not opperate when the brewing unit is removed, avoiding a horrible mess.

Hi, Please remove the power source for 5 minutes while the door is closed. Then, restore the source and turn on your machine again. If the issue persists, please find the sensor that determines whether door is closed and apply pressure to it to determine whether it still functions. If the sensor does not work, then you might need to have the machine serviced. Thank you.

There are three slots on the back of thw side panels. Only the top and bottome appear to have the plastic tabs that secure it in place. I used two butter knives to slip in between the panel and housing. You have to lift the panel outwards to raise the lock tabs out of the slots and at the same time slide the panel back towards the water housing location by about an inch. It was pretty stiff and I broke a couple of tabs, probably because i did not lift the panel out enough. I suspect tassimo has a tool that lifts the panel out just the right amount. The lock tabs are only about a quarter inch.

I would just use a mixture of 1/4 water to 3/4 parts white vinegar. Run this through and then follow up with 2 plain water flushes. This will dissolve the deposits and it won't hurt you if any is left in the system.
