No... sounds like you need a new drive! if you know the specific model you should be able to get a driver online on a google search, if you cannot get it working I after getting a driver...... assume it needs replaced.

Check on the Acer website for specific drivers for this laptop.

Sometimes the operating system has conflicts with the Acer proprietary stuff and you just need to put the latest feature drivers in.

You can check for conflicts by going to control panel, opening the system folder and checking your hardware list to see if you have any !!! marks on things related to the laptop special hardware features.
