I guess you missed the part where it says to power everything off while making connections.

It sounds like you shorted the amplifier. Try it one moretime without any speaker cables attached. Then take it in to a Tech.

As always, you should refer to the manual FIRST before coming here. That is where WE will usually start.

I presume you have proven the amps are dead by trying multiple sources, swapping a different speaker onto it and that the balance control is NOT all the way to one side; headphones don't work either and we're down to proving it's dead before you take it in to a tech, right?

There is the slighest chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the MUTE control.

If it still doesn't work you might want to prove if its a low-level signal loss or a high level amp failure. One way would be to run an RCA cable pair from the Tape Out to any other device (even a TV with speakers) you might have that accepts an audio input. If IT can't detect receive the DEAD Channel you're losing it in the preamplifying or source selection stages.

If it CAN be played externally, the receiver is losing it on its way to or at the amplification stage. Further isolation might require hands-on technical expertise.

Let's work with FM as that is ONboard and can't be connected wrong. Does THAT work?

Turn the volume control to something medium.

The errant switch, control or condition may change and you will suddenly release the amp's full power and possibly destroying your speakers. If a signal isn't audible at 1/2 volume it's probably not there.

Carefully examine the front panel for clues like a misplaced Mute or Tape Monitor control or Multichannel Analog Input selected.

There is a good chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot through idleness and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

Turn the volume to something reasonable and see if that helped.

Same problem that I'm having with my sub

When the balance + /- buttons on the remote control are pressed, it enters the balance mode automatically without pressing the balance button on the front panel. If adjusting the balance from the receiver itself you have to hit the "balance" button" and then you are in balance mode and have 5 seconds to adjust. If you have one speaker only hooked up to the receiver the receiver will select that side automatically as well. Hope this helps.

Almost any stereo receiver will work with your CDC-5090C/R compact disc player. As it uses standard analog RCA out.
Without knowledge of your price range (they can be had for $150-$20,000+), it would be difficult to recommended a specific model for your usage. Rather then give you a model, your best bet would to call or visit a local hi-fi shop with your disc player and what you are looking for in mind and let them assist you finding what meets your needs. If you are not located in an area that has any available audio experts, there are several great online dealers that can assist you with the process. One of the most notable for customer service is OneCall.com, who have a "1-800" you can call and they can walk you through what you're looking for.

Unfortunately the laser pickup assembly needs to be replaced, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly and will end up skipping or won't read the disc. It is far cheaper to replace the CD player than have the assembly replaced.

You don't say if this new or old equipment, new or old problem.

Usually you just unplug the headphones to enable the speakers.

You should absolutely be getting audio. You connect hdmi cables from all of the equipment to the hdmi inputs on the Sherwood. Then you connect one hdmi cable from the Sherwood hdmi output to the television's hdmi input.
You just press your function/input button to switch sound between all of the equipment.

This photo shows a front-panel PHONO button, so I'd say that it does have a phono input

This is a common question on this site. Amps of all types have protection circuits to keep them from doing a self meltdown. Testing follows this logic. 1. Remove all speaker wires. 2. Keep the volume down - all the way. 3. Turn the unit on. 4. If it does not trip off, then there is a problem either in a speaker or the wiring. a. Reconnect one at a time until/unless it trips off b. That will tell you where to look further.
If it does trip off, then there is an internal circuit issue in the amp and probably requires professional help to fix.

The protection indicator lights because it cannot apply B+ (voltage to power the output transistors). There is no sound because there is no B+. It is sensing a short circuit, prevents the B+, and turns on protection indicator. This process happens in order to prevent a fire and further damage to the receiver. It needs repair - isolate the short (usually a transistor) and replace it. Another possibility could be cold solder connections on the board. Inspect the printer circuit board, on the solder side, and check for bad connections (solder junctions).
