Bernina Virtuosa 150 - Page 7 Questions & Answers
Problem with Bernina 153 motor
The problem with removing the covers is all the wire connections you have to unplug after taking the cover screws out and prying off the balance knob on the side. If you are not grounded you can send a static charge through the circiut boards thus eliminating them from functioning ever again. We wear a wrist strap with a grounding wire. Its possible you may have put the bobbin in the case wrong and it was turning the wrong way. The right way is clockwise. I really have to suggest it be looked at by a tech. Sorry.
Bernina Virtuosa 150 Quilters Edition
I would start out by putting some cleaner (409) on a q-tip and run it everywhere the thread touches. Guides, tension discs, the under side of the needle plate gets missed alot. Around the hook casing. Then I would just keep sewing on scraps, I know this wastes thread but eventually it will clean itself. A very close zigzag satin stitch would work best.
Timing for Bernina Virtuosa 153
Timing these machines gets pretty involved such as in just removing the covers. You need a grounding ******** your wrist as the cables all need to be unplugged and you don't want to send a static charge from yourself to the circuit boards. They are expensive. Then you need special sized metal pins to pin several pinning points so the needle, hook, stepping motors and feed dogs all co-ordinate with each other. Also several places need certain guages to set less than .1 millimeter size distances between different places to avoid other problems. You also need several sized torx screwdrivers and the knowledge to adjust the upper and lower tensions. The upper tension alone has at least 3 or four places that need to be in the correct position.
All of the above has to be done in a certain order also.
Its complicated enough. If someone is going to walk you through this over the phone expect it to be complicated. Even if you had a copy of the manual (which could be a copywrite infringment on newer machines) you can expect it to be difficult.
My advice is to leave it to the professionals to have it done right.
Needle Keeps Moving While Sewing and Bobbin Wont Thread
Hi Nikki,
The problem seems to be of the needles alignment. If you are using a half bobbin type (D type) needle, makes sure you have used the proper number & size and also fastened it well so that the flat side is firmly fixed/clasping the inner side of the needle hold. That black thing which I feel is the fly-nut that helps you tighten/clamp the needle to its hold. Then after having done that, slowly turn the wheel manually to see whether the needle is going in thru the hole in a straight line and if you can, look underneath to se if the knotter ring (the one that looks like having fangs) comes close as the neele advances inward. All these movements HAVE TO BE syncronised. Only then you will be able to stitch the fines of fabrics speedily. Also make sure oyu are not tugging on the front end of the fabric too hard as this may cause the needle to go in a diagonal manner thus causing it to snap. Take care as to NOT to be too close to the needle while at high speeds. The snapping pieces can fly right into your eyes/nose causing serious injury.
Hope that does it Nikki...
The pressure foot on my bernina bernette 715 won't move
Troubleshoot this. Here are some steps you can take:
Safety Setting Adjustment:
In newer firmware versions (V9.xx), a safety sewing setting was added to prevent the ruler foot from hitting the needle holder when the foot is hovering and the needle is down.
If your presser foot only raises slightly (about 2mm), it might be due to this safety setting.
To resolve this, change the setting from the maximum of 2mm to a maximum of 6mm.
Remember to switch it back to the original setting when using the ruler foot.
Check the Needle Position:
Ensure that the needle is in the highest position (raised) before attempting to move the presser foot.
If the needle is down, the presser foot may not move freely.
Inspect for Obstructions:
Examine the area around the presser foot for any obstructions, tangled threads, or debris.
Make sure there's nothing preventing the presser foot from moving smoothly.
Presser Foot Pressure Adjustment:
Uneven fabric feed can occur if the pressure on the presser foot is too high or too low.
Adjust the presser foot pressure according to the thickness of the fabric you're working with.
Power Cycle and Reconnect:
Turn off the machine and disconnect it from the power source.
Reconnect it and power it back on.
Refer to the Manual:
Consult your Bernina Bernette 715 user manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to the presser foot. If these steps don't resolve the problem, you may have to take it to a professional repair service.
How do you thread the bernina 1230
You can probably use the manual for the 1260. Sewing machines basically thread alike from one model to the next.
One thing to remember: ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread! This will help prevent those dreaded thread nests under the fabric.

I have a Bernina 930 record, zigzag stitch it misses some zigzag stitches & does straight stitches
If your Bernina 930 record sewing machine is experiencing issues with zigzag stitches and straight stitches, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
- Check the needle: Ensure that the needle is properly inserted and not bent or dull. Replace the needle if necessary, making sure to use the correct needle type and size for the fabric you are sewing.
- Adjust the stitch width and length: Verify that the stitch width and length settings are properly adjusted for the desired zigzag stitch. Refer to your machine's user manual for instructions on how to adjust these settings correctly.
- Clean and lubricate the machine: A build-up of lint or lack of lubrication can affect the machine's performance. Clean the bobbin area and other accessible parts of the machine using a soft brush or lint brush. Apply a drop of sewing machine oil to the recommended areas as specified in the user manual.
- Check the tension: Improper tension can lead to skipped stitches. Ensure that the upper thread tension is properly adjusted for the fabric and thread you are using. Consult the user manual for guidance on adjusting the tension correctly.
- Test with different fabrics and threads: Try sewing on different fabrics using different types of thread to determine if the issue is specific to certain materials. This will help identify whether the problem lies with the machine or the materials being used.
- Have the machine serviced: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to have your Bernina 930 record serviced by a professional. There could be underlying mechanical issues that require expert attention.
It's important to note that the Bernina 930 record is a vintage sewing machine, and finding a qualified technician with experience working on older models may be beneficial if further repairs or adjustments are needed.
