What is your question? Can it be done? Yes, but you'll probably want a Bernina tech to do it if the part can be found.

Assuming you have threaded the bobbin case correctly, you might try using a different bobbin. There may be something wrong with it. Make sure that there is no thread sticking out of the side of the bobbin.

If there is a bobbin thread sensor, it could be dirty causing it to not read the bobbin correctly.

When you thread the upper thread, be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot so the tension disk is released and the thread can seat properly.

You should probably take it to a Bernina repair person.

May be best to contact your Bernina dealer.

Perhaps I'm not understanding your question. When doing applique, I use a very tight zigzag stitch with a satin stitch foot or open-toe embroidery foot (so the thickness of the stitches do not create buildup under the presser foot). Set the tension so the bobbin thread stays mostly under the fabric so the top thread is the only thread that shows on the top (sometimes threading the bobbin pigtail will help).

Fuse the cutout fabric to the backing fabric. Then zigzag so the raw edge of the fabric is covered by the zigzag (helps to use a thicker thread so the coverage is easier).

Some newer machines have the ability to miter corners. On my 930, I set the needle position to the outside of the raw edged. Then when I near the corner, I gently, but consistently, narrow the stitch width to an an outside point, since the needle on the outside edge, turn the fabric and gently, but consistently, widen the stitch to full width. This creates a nice mitered corner.

When making curves, stitch small lengths and then sink the needle on the outside of the curve, and gently turn the fabric to follow the curve and repeat while going around the curve.

How to Appliqu Like Pro Sew4Home (FWIW, IMHO, the satin stitch on the bird is really a poor example. The stitch is not very even at all--could be the sewing machine.)

How to Make and Apply Appliques (The giraffe is a better example, although choosing a simple design to applique usually yields better results.)

Practice, practice, practice!

sounds like the computer is having trouble responding to the commands it's given, may need to be serviced.

Bernina Artista... | Answered on Jun 05, 2015

it's possible there could be something wrong with the computer, only a sewing machine repair shop can tell you for sure

You obviously have a faulty machine take it back to your dealer where you bought or directly contact Bernina.
Best wishes.

Service manuals are difficult to find for most sewing machines, which Bernina is not an exception. However, there is a Yahoo Group called "BerninaThirtySomethings" that has conversations, documents, photos, etc. for the vintage Berninas including the 730 Record. You can join the group (must have a Yahoo email account) and download a variety of documents including a "Setting Manual" for the 730.

The needle must begin to rise and create a tiny bulge of top thread and clear the hook as the hook captures the top thread.

Remove needle plate so you have clear view hook and needle. Rotate handwheel until needle reaches bottom of stroke and just begins upward. The hook needs to be right there but not too early and hit the needle. If too late the hook will not capture the thread causing a dropped stitch.

If the last thread bunching didnt cause a shaft slip you should be able to advance or retard the hook by 1 belt notch and get it back in time otherwise you'll need to loosen a shaft coupling screw to fine tune timing.

Search for videos on adjusting timing.
