I used to live in the Chicago area. We definitely had winter (below zero).I went thru extensive winterization for the inboards and stern drives. I fogged outboards and put Sta-bil in the gas. I also ran the gas out of the carbs or drained them but the boats would sit unused for 6 months. Does the boat stay in the water? If on a trailer, lower the motor so it is in the run (trim down) and the water will run out. If you tilt it up after this for storage, cover the gear case as it can fill with rain water and freeze.

Who's make and hp? It looks like a 25 hp.

Check the ignition wires or spark plugs.

Check compression on each cylinder.

Good Morning, From Your Diagnostics Yes It Could Be A Coil Or Coil Driver. You Need To Check With Mercury as Some Coils Have Been Superceeded And If Thyey Go Faulty Then The Whole Set 6 Coils Should Be Replaced To Avoid ECU Damage. Regards Gordon

Could be many things.flat battery,faulty batt cables,dirty batt connections,faulty starter solenoid,worn starter brushes.suggest using jumper cables direct to starter to check if starter is ok.short circuit solenoid to see if that is not faulty.could also be broken wire in loom

I have a yamaha jog rr with a 70 kit on it has orignal exhuast but wont tick over and has no power to get up hills was told it was rolls so changed them try air n timing screw nothing if u can help would be great

Some models charged through a Magneto, but see if you can find the 1979 Year Manual. I have a 1979 engine myself in a 15Hp which is a Manual start(no battery) and I have a Sailhorse Johnson 8HP which has an electric port and is Manual start. I believe the 8HP would charge a battery as on a Sailboat the running lights needed power. The 8HP could power the lights directly. Johnson offered options for electric start in lower HP units and options in charging systems to contain costs. You might get a better answer from someone by listing the HP of your motor. I was the original owner of the 15HP and remember the 9.9HP and others in the same Sales brochure. The Sales brochure may advertise more about the charging systems.

finding older marine equipment is tough..you usually need to post on ebay or similar websites and be sure to put in the exact model of you motor in the search bar..try to find one close to you so shipping wont be so expensive..also look under marine salvage equipment/parts..good luck..

I am not familiar with the Suzuki brand but short of small motors (under 25 hp) most if not all motors by 1989 are fixed jet and not adjustable. If fuel is the problem, cleaning it the answer.

While at the river try to adjust the fuel air mixture. When you are on the water it puts the engine under a load and if that dont work then dont be afraid to bump up the idle stop screw slightly.

You may have a low oil lockout for the crankcase on a 4 cycle or a low oil cutoff alert for a 2 cycle with an automatic oil feed mixer. Some transition of inboard-outboard technology to outboards can include tilt lockout so that you can not start up in gear. Most prevent the starter from turning, but could keep the engine from firing if they want to wire it that way. With the "beeps" it would seem to be a Code.
