Do the arrows on the top of the pistons on a 1993 Harley face the exhaust ?

usually a 2 stroke will chuff/backfire out of the exhaust if it low on compression, did you put the rings in the right grooves and up the right way and is the piston in the right way around as there is a front and back ,the ring pegs are supposed to face the inlet side of the barrel.

Normally the arrow faces the exhaust side. I've never seen 2 arrows?

there is normally an arrow or numbers that point to the exhaust port on the top of the piston , also there are intake ports that should line up to the piston !

Face toward the exhaust port

The arrow always faces the exhaust port, it is very important the piston is in the correct wat to stop the piston ring ends catching in the ports.

Check that the arrow on the top of the piston is facing the exhaust. Sounds to me like you have it in backwards.

both 2 and 4 stroke motor pistons will have and arrow on the piston, this points to the exhaust port,2 strokes have locating pins for the rings and the end of the rings go to these pins,as you will not be able to get back into the barrel if not fitted like this. 4 stroke rings are posistioned at 120 degree intervals to each other so the end gaps dont line up and there will be numbers stamped on the top and scraper rings which you face up.

I believe the arrow must be installed facing the exhaust.
