Also- IF you have recently unbolted the inertial sensor under your seat, and it's not sitting upright any longer, it will not let the fuel pump pump the fuel... Don't ask me how I know..
It's a little black box under the seat with "UP" and an arrow on it..

Fuel pressure probably not enough to meet needs of injectors,due to trash or water if filter .yep relay lets it crank if all other requirment are met, like in neutral ,kill switch is working and in run with all fuses good.

Power getting to stater but wont crank over

No mention of model...so these are general comments.

First, when you say there is power to the starter, do you mean the actual starter or the starter relay (or starter solenoid). On most Yamahas there is power to the starter solenoid from the battery at all times.....power leaves the relay to the actual starter motor only when the key is on, the interlocks are satisfied and the starter button is pushed.

So if you actually are getting power at the starter motor and no rotation, and the battery is fully charged you have either a starter motor issue or an internal engine/clutch problem. Is the bike physically in neutral ...rear wheel spins? Remove spark plugs and attempt to rotate engine with kick starter if equipped, or access rotor bolt and rotate with socket...if it rotates fine...remove starter motor and inspect,

If the starter relay is not sending power to starter motor....check Kill switch is in ENGINE RUN position, bike is in neutral, and indicated on dash, and retry. If you have no neutral light showing, but it is in neutral, you need to flip the sidestand up...pull in the clutch and retryt....as there is a sidestand switch and a clutch switch that are part of in gear starting interlocks.
No neutral light indication requires testing of the neutral switch aand wiring but tryt to get the bike running first.

1985 model. I replaced battery, was running, now wont start, turn switch hit starter button , get nothing , there is a click from the relay that the previous owner just installed last summer. Lights and...

Check that your Engine kill switch is in the Run position.

Bike must be in neutral (with neutral light showing) to crank starter, if you try starting in gear the clutch switch must be activated (lever in) and the sidestand must be up.

Hello, I have a 1985 suzuki cavalcade, it died on the side of the road and wouldnt start, put a new battery now I have lights ect but nothing happens when I push the start button so I checked the buttton...

You say "Would not Start". Does that mean it would not crank on the starter or would crank, but not fire?
To start these bikes, The bike must be in neutral, kill switch on the right handlebar in run, sidestand up (mainly for 1987 models) press the starter (there should be a "clicking from under the seat, fuel pump priming the carbs) when the clicking stops, pull in the clutch, there is a safety switch in the clutch lever that anly allows the starter to work with it pulled in. (if it has been bypassed, then the bike will start without the clutch lever pulled in and not allow the carbs to prime, causing the starter to operate for longer duration. ALSO, the cruise control will not work (only fitted to the LX

My 2003 silver wing 600 does not start, the starter runs but the engine does not start..what should I do?

I have a '05 Silverwing 400, while riding, the engine cuts off, FI light shows and it cranks but will not start up anymore. I've checked whatever I can to figure out the problem which includes side stand switch, relays, fuses, stop switch, fuel pump, coil, swapped a CDI with another Silverwing(this bike has no immobilizer) CDI from mine works fine on the other bike. There's no spark, FI lights remains on. Anyone encountered this problem?? I am at a lost.

Honda Deauville will not start.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The click is significant. It indicates that the starting relay is engaging but for some reason, the starter motor is not cranking. This could either be a faulty starter relay (particularly the contacts) or a faulty starter motor (specifically, the carbon brushes). To determine which:
  • with the side covers off, expose the starter relay particularly the 2 large terminals;
  • have somebody start the bike normally using the key and button start switch;
  • determine if indeed the clicking is coming from the starter relay;
  • while the start button is still pressed, jump the 2 big terminals;
  • if the engine cranks, then the internal contacts of the starter relay are corroded or burned;
  • if the engine will not crank, then the starter motor is faulty or it can not turn the engine..
A few additional ideas:
  • externally charge the battery;
  • drain the tank and carbs of stale fuel;
  • refill with fresh fuel;
  • remove the plugs, center stand the bike, engage 1st gear, rotate rear wheel to exercise engine.
  • Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

If there is no click, you may want to check the alarm/security/immobilizer if your bike is so equipped. others to check would be side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral light indicator.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
