1997 mountaineer has electricity but wont start, no ticking

My 1997 mountaineer has electricity but wont start, battery indicator is in the middle as always. it doesnt even make a ticking sound like when the battery is low, theres no noise when i turn the key. Once every few times it may tick one tick. Is the starter or alternator bad?

Battery was replaced a month ago... I have all lights.. headlights,
interior lights, working brightly, and the radio and 10 disc cd player
work. When I turn the key it makes no cranking or constant ticking
noise. Terminals are clean. When I turn the key it either makes no
noise at all or will make just one tick. Thank you for you help...

You have a bad starter if all your connections are good and your battery is measuring 12.7 volts and above with engine off.

Testimonial: "Thank you ledsled378 for your help with my starter questions. :) huge help!!!"

You'll need leverage to remove the bolts if they are that tight. You will also need to revove the battery connections on the starter and remove the positive side of the battery terminal before removing the starter. I don't know what type of tool your using, but the longer the better will give you more leverage and power to remove the bolts.

I have a 1997 Ford Mercury Mountaineer I go to start it and it wont turn over but it has fire

I suggest check battery charge, starter and ignition system condition; fuel pressure and fuel injection delivery system.

If you have some anti-theft system, check if this inst activated or some aftermark alarm.

Hope helps.

My 1998 mercury mountaineer wont start. I just drove it 380 miles from jersey to west virginia with no problems. All the electrical works. when I turn the key it clicks one time and thats it. This is my...

The one click might indicate a bad starter. If some one can locate the starter on the drivers side underneath. Then tap lightly on the starter with a hammer or something with a little weight while your holding the key over in the start position the starter may catch. Also check the battery connections .

2001 Mercury Mountaineer won't start

Have a load test done on the battery. If it checks out good, take a voltmeter to the battery and have an assistant rotate the engine. If you see more than a 2 volt drop when the car is being started, the starter is heading south.
