SOURCE: How to convert a motorbike from european to uk spec

i dunno if your bike is the same as my us spec 2007 sv650s, but we just entered daylight savings time and i wanted to change the clock...i tend to forget things and forgot how to do it so i just held the adjustment button on the right side of my display (labeled ADJ.) it changed from mph to kph and from miles on the odometer to kilometers...if yours is similar it should be as simple as holding the button to change to mph and miles.

SOURCE: 1993 Yamaha GTS keeps blowing EFI fuse (10 Amps)

The EFI fuse, powers the ECU, the injector 12V feed, and the fuel pump. If it does it within a few seconds of trying to start the bike, it is the fuel pump. The bike has been stored for a while and the old fuel has gummed up the pump rotors, which stalls the pump and blows the fuse. If it is whilst it tries to run, then a short on the injector feeds or ECU wiring loom is favourite...do not try a 20A fuse

SOURCE: Battery replacement and parts for Yamaha Dragstar XVS 400

Hi there,

the best battery replacement for your bike would be a low-maintenance sealed battery. Sealed types last longer but they are expensive. XVS650 is a fit but make sure you specify if its either a custom or a classic, they get confused by these.

I"d recommend the linbar by lindby customs for the engine guard. THey're practical.

Hope this helps,

Only 1 light workin on low beam

Every single time I have had a failure of low beam in a headlight without failure of high beam, it has been because the lamp bulb or halogen lamp module has reached the end of its serviceable life, not because of any wiring problems. Low beam burns out first because it is on the most. If low beam is lost simultaneously in both headlights, I would check fuse first, then the headlight switch. If low beam is lost on one side only, it is almost always going to be due to the bulb or lamp module needing to be replaced. In that case, replace them in both headlights because the other one will be going kaput in short order, as well.

Main beam warning light stays on but no main beam.dipped headlight dim

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initial checks would be:
  • continuity of the bright / dim filaments of the headlight;
  • the headlight bulb socket;
  • +12 when switch on bright on the yellow wire;
  • +12 when switch on dim on the green wire.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

N.Z. Yamaha FZ6S Headlights

There is a genuine reason why this is the standard setup for this bike. At night, the dual-headlight of the bike can appear to other motorists that you are in a car at a much greater distance than is actual. As you can imagine, this might result in someone pulling out in front of you, completely unaware that you are bearing down on them at a short distance. So, for safety reasons, only a single beam is lit when using dipped/low beam.

However, if you accept the risk above, you can do what is known as the 'dual headlight mod'. There are 2 accepted methods for this.

The first method simply requires bridging the 2-pin connector (H7 bulb) to the spare on the 3-pin connector (H4 bulb). Instructions have been posted by ‘Gand’ at the following link:

http://solsar.com/fz6/headlight.htm

The second method is more complex, and requires a decent knowledge of auto-electrics, as you have to remove various components of the bike just to get to the wiring loom. Sorry, I've lost the link for this, but you might be able to find the instructions by searching for 'FZ6 dual headlight mod'.

Note: it differs from country to country, but in the UK (for example), the dual headlight mod will result in an immediate MOT failure. Therefore, you will need to remember to disconnect the mod prior to MOT inspection.
