SOURCE: I'm restoring a 1981 Suzuki gs850 , I'm pretty

Personally I would locate an illustrated parts manual for your motor and determine if they are interchangeable. Also, check with a Suzuki dealership for interchangeability of the coils. I am a Harley man personally and I would not even think of putting coils on my motor that are not made for it. Bikes are funny creatures and often very unforgiving. Buy OEM parts made for your particiular model motor and you will be very happy. Don't risk it even if there is a chance they are interchangeable. Are you willing to burn up your ignition system for it?

SOURCE: kawasaki zr 400 cdi box

The CDI is a complete ignition system in a box So while a box from a larger model may work it will not be ideal. Look on some of the breaker sites and some internet auction sites for the part number you want. If it happens to be the same across other models you can then look for those spares as well.

Duplicate question. Keep in mind unless kept on a battery tender these batteries are good for one or two years max, no matter the brand.

Can I use gs750 camshafts on a gs850 engine

Although it is likely the gs850 is only a bored out 750 engine, it is not to say it will fit directly Carefull measurments must be made to length, bearing diamiter, width etc, also consider gearing, number of teeth this will affect number of turns per revelution of crankshaft, may be you can fit cam sprockets from one to another, dont forget to measure, cam lobe height, this will effect valve openings, to high and the valves may foul the pistons,to low and the running will be compramised, although the latter would be more desirable, all being said and done if all measures up the same there should be no prblem, pay particular attention to movment once the bearing caps have been tightened, as most cams and cylinder heads are a machined match, good luck, hope this helps, paul

1982 Suzuki GS850 GL will only run with the starter button held

Obviously the CDI is picking up power from the starter button. Check the ignition key switch for proper operation. Chances are that whatever fried the loom also fried part of the switch. Alternate to that, trace the wire powering the CDI system, disconnect it at the source (starter button connection), then find a power source that is live only when the key is turned on and then hook the CDI wire up there.

an I get a “very helpful” rating on this answer?
