The starter drive gear may not be engaging the flywheel properly. Remove the starter and apply battery voltage to the post and the case. The starter gear should turn. Hold it down tight!
With no power to the starter, the starter gear should turn freely only ONE way.

I am having problems starting it turn key get click than nothing

Check battery terminals making sure there tight as vibrations can loosen them also check battery is charged. If that doesn't cure it put it in gear with ignition off rock bike/ car backwards and forwards if you hear a light clunk noise try starting the normal way. If bike / car starts it means starter motor had jammed. Hope this helps.

Starter issues

try tapping on the starter motor/solenoid, it sounds like the solenoind is engaging(the clunk you hear) but the starter is not turning if the wire is getting hot it could be the starter is frozen up.

Custom bike....starter "clunks" and does not turn over

Sounds like your jack shaft isnt engaging into the bushing in your outer primary... you should pull off the outer primary and try carefully filing the edges off the bushing... Also check that the jack shaft has been properly installed.... This problem is common on customs

Starter and possible wiring issues with custom bike

Did you try removing the starter and testing it on a "bench"? Sounds like it might be "jammin" up. Loose, misalignment, it's worth a try and doesn't cost anything. good luck

Harley davidson evo motor wont turn over...just clicks

Pull the spark plugs out and hit the starter. This will make sure that the engine is not locked up. If the starter does not turn the engine, put the bike in first gear and have someone push you, making sure the engine is free. If the engine is OK, your starter is probably jammed and needs replaced. That wire getting hot is a dead giveaway something is locked up tight...starter or engine. If ya have a large hi-performance engine in the bike, chances are your stock starter won't do the job.

Clunk from engine/crankcase area

Try at stationary under heavy load with clutch to isolate, sounds serious, I'd check all transmission connections are right before riding again.
