When engine hot, put your arm on radiator, if this one hot too, you have no air and enough coolant in the system. Then the temperature sensor on the R bottom of radiator is bad.
If radiator is cold, usually not enough coolant, or bad thermostat on top in, near coolant filling cap, this one opens coolant to pass into radiator.

How do you fix the fan motor?

There should be an electric thermostat that turns the fan on when the engine/coolant gets to a certain temperature.

It might have gone bad.

I have a whirring noise at idle that comes and goes and you can see the headlights flicker when it happens, need to know where to start looking

It sounds like (no pun intended) your cooling fan is coming on and putting an additional load on the electrical system. The cooling or radiator fan is usually behind the radiator. Be careful when poking around there as some motorcycles are wired where the fan can come on at any time it thinks the engine is getting warm - even if the key is out and the bike is off. If your battery is old and not able to charge as well, or your charging system is having issues, or the fan motor is dying and requiring extra current to move, those symptoms you described could be the result.

05 Jeep Liberty.. change the electric fan because it wasn't coming on. Fixed the problem for about 7 months. Now it over heats mostly while sitting in traffic.. Get out. move the wire harness con

could be relay but I'm thinking your lines are exposed somewhere between relay and fan and they are shoting out. Thats why it works when you move them. Youi could always electrical tape them (full length) and see if that works. Hope this helps

Fan is not coming on

I don't think there is a switch they are set up with thermostats to come on and off as the need to. You could have one of 2 problems either you need a new fan/relay or a thermostat. but i would check all the fuses first

1999 Yamaha R6....At what temperature of the coolant should the fan kick on? Thanks

The electric fan comes on at an indicated 215F degrees. The high temp warning comes on at 242F degrees. I think this model has had some trouble with the fan relays going bad. If you are having trouble with your engine getting hot, I'd recommend checking the fan relay first.

What make my 95 goldwing run hot before the fan come on . Is the fan coming on to late. when the fan come on it cool down,

The good thing is your fan is working. Now , why do you think it is running hot? Is it boiling over? If not , you just have a gauge that reads high. Most Honda fans do not turn on until the needle is licking the red on the temperature gauge. If you are running hot you might want to try an antifreeze modifier like "ICE". Keep in mind a lot of Honda gauges get more inaccurate with age.

How hot does the engine have to get before the fan comes on

That depends on the sensor in your radiator that turns on the fan. If you don't think it works, you can "jumper" the sensor and the fan should come on.

When the engine is hot the check engine light came on and the fan (is ok ) don't start

Hi:
How hot is it getting? Is it running hot? Is there water in it or is there a water leak? You may even have a stuck thermostat. How many fans does it have? What makes you think that the fan is working properly I mean if the air conditioner is on when it's running the fan (s) will run automatically, make sure the air isn't on when trying to see if the fan is working properly while the engine is running. Those fans comes on by use of a mercury thermal switch that is mounted in the water jacket in some cars. If the fan is workinf properly and the engine is overheating then it could be something as simple as very low water in the cooling system, if it's full and the fan is working properly you may have a bad thermostat.

Hope helpful

Coolant fans not working ,fuses o,k and changed 2 relay,s

Hi: I use to do a lot of auto mechanics ,not too much anymore, but it sounds like your mercury switch isn't working. there is a switch that works off of the hot water on some vehicles that basically trips the fan on and off. Some people bypass this switch, makes the fan come on and stay on as soon as the key is turned on from the ignition, I wouldn't advise it but if you do the bypass and the fan works then you know where your problem lies. I think they call it a thermatically switch control. Just trace your fan electric wires from the fan to there destination.
Hope this helps. You could have saved some money on relays had you done this first;
