90 Honda Prelude misses sometimes

My 90 Honda Prelude with a 2.1 runs great sometimes then will miss while accelerating or while driving on the highway the RPM gauge starts jumping all over the place. A couple of times it wouldn't start after driving for a while. I've replaced the coil, condenser, distributor cap, and radiator fan motor. I've spent over $200 on diagnostics and no luck.

Maybe the crank speed sensor is faulty - would confuse ECU and show wierd rev counter results. Any engine check-light (MIL) or stored error codes?

Dirty fuel, and injectors? Try adding a quality gas line, and fuel system cleaner. If you have not done this in many miles...you shoel be impressed...Please follow the instructions on the bottle...I like the STP concentrated black bottle...sometimes 2 bottles are needed. Hope this helps. Any other symptoms?

My prelude wiil not accelerate past 30 to 40 miles per hour, starts fine, idles fine run fine beloww about 30 or 40 mikles per hour, does not really miss but will not accelerat past 30 or 40

Generally the symptoms say the catalytic converter is clogged, you can't get any air out so you can't pull any air in, and the age of the vehicle says so too. Look and see if it has ever been replaced.

I have a 90 Pontiac 6000 that starts just fine everytime, but it misses and shutters when I accelerate. once it's up to speed it runs great and at low speeds ie. 30 - 40 mph it runs great. it just misses...

Check your transmission lock-up. It's programmed to come in at at 40mph. You can replace the lock-up to come in at 60mph or better.
Or you may have some ignition wires going bad or distributor cap has crack in it.

Rough idle(200-300RPM)off idle runs great no white smoke

Have you changed your fast idle valve or air idel control valve I would change the air idle valve because it is the one with an electric sensor.

Runs great, but stumbles(200/300 RPM)at idle

Thats usually a bad symptom. Burnt valve. Do you see white smoke when you first start the car in the morning? If so valve guides and and valves need work. I just went through it with my car. I removed the head and had it overhauled 2 hundred bucks. and now it runs great. Good luck P.S if you have a shop do it it will be 14 hundred.
