Not getting any spark on my 1981 Honda XL 100. When I kick it though, the neutral light does come on. Is this the stator or the points?

    Point have been cleaned. Still no spark. Maybe need to replace the points?

Has the bike sat for awhile if so the point will need cleaned

take a high impedance test light clip output coil side, and then touch primary trigger output while engine is cranking

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your decribed problem could either be a neutral switch about to fail (least likely) or a loose grounding issue (most likely).  This switch must read 0 ohms to ground when in neutral and infinity (no reading) when in any gear.

Yes and from memory you need to use a (I think its called a bearing puller) to remove the cover which is part of the points and it is behind it, so saying again from memory there is gaps you can clean and adjust the through. I had the XL 500 :-) hope this helps

My crf 100 wont start it seems like its not sparking. i got a new spark plug and i dont see no spark what do i do i wanna ride
Be sure that the handlebar and side stand kill switches are off. Have a friend kick the bike over ( in neutral ) while you ground the bottom of the plug against the cylinder. Without being grounded, the plug can't spark. Don't twist the throttle more than once when starting. You can easily flood the engine.

How do I get to the piston rings on a 1981 honda xl 500 off
the cylinder will slide off the top of the piston, then you can replace the rings and slide the cylinder back down over the top of the piston. The bottom edge of the cylinder sleeve should have a small chamfer in it to aid in getting the rings into the cylinder.

are you testing the spark through a new spark plug?
some of these XL models developed a bad pulse generator.
It's part of the Stator, I can't imagine it went bad just from sitting though

HOW TO REWIND A STATOR THAT WILL LAST FOR AT LEAST
If you are rewinding multiple stators I would expect some other source of the problem like a short somewhere. An XR 200 stator may work as the motors are similar. I would trust a used Honda stator more than any rewound one, usually they are completely trouble free and will last longer than the rest of the motor

Crf100 has a weak spark
You may have dirt/water in-/ behind the stator plate, remove right side (as you sit on it) plate and check for any kind of debris. Clean and find point of entry - repair and seal.
