1991 honda motorcycle se headlight

Hello,

To remove the Headlight assembly, you will need to do the following;

1) Rotate the rear view mirrors 90 degrees so that the mirrors are facing up and remove the bolts holding the mirrors on - you will need to remove both mirrors.
2) Remove the windshield trim panel by placing a shop cloth over the slot between the windshield and the headlight unit. Insert a wide flat blade screwdriver into the slot and very CAREFULLY lift up on the screwdriver. This will unhook the latch from the holder on the fairing. You now should be able to remove the trim panel.
3) Remove the louver trim panel below the headlight lens. This will give you access to the bolts holding the lower part of the headlight assembly (remove them and pull the headlight assembly forward and slightly out of the front fairing).

NOTE: there are screws holding the headlight adjustment cable mechanism to the headlight case - these will have to be removed if you are taking the entire assembly out - which, if I remember correctly, you will have to. Next disconnect the headlight connector from the headlight lens unit.

Install in reverse order.

Hope this helps.

The choke do'nt seem to work, the cable closes

Hello and welcome to Fixya, The Gl1500 choke is operated by a cable. There are 2 plunger type chokes, 1 for each carb, the cable is attached to a bracket and when you operate the choke the lever opens or closes the plungers. So we're looking at either a broken cable, or stuck or partially stuck plungers. So first thing you should check is your cable, remove the choke lever assembly from your handlebar and remove the choke cable, try pulling the cable with your hand, if it comes all the way out, you will be needing a new cable. 2. If the plungers are stuck, this is a very time consuming job and I would suggest a Honda Technician do it unless you are mechanically inclined and want to tackle the job yourself (which will save you quite a bit). You mentioned the Haynes manual, there ok but they don't go into great detail like a factory Honda manual. Which you can purchase threw your dealer or maybe even cheaper on Ebay. But regardless if its the cable that's broke or the plungers, your going to have to get in deep to repair either one. I have done hundreds of these Goldwings and would be happy to try and guide you as you go threw the process, but I suggest getting a Factory manual as well. Just a guess, but your total repair cost + manual less than $100 if you do it yourself. If the dealer does it, depending on your location, could be upwards $400+. But either way call your dealer and ask them for a quote, you may get a great deal if there slow and need the work. Anyway I hope this helps you some, I will be happy to assist you any time just let me know. Thanks for your time, and thanks for using Fixya. Have a great day :) Cycleworx157

Alternator or Voltage Regulator or Other?

You will need to test the charging system. Try this simple test, hook a voltmeter to the battery and check the voltage with the key turned off. Should be 12 volts. Now start the engine and note the volt meter reading at idle, it should go up to about 13.8 - 14.2 volts. Rev the engine up and note what happens. If the voltage is low at low RPM 12V and then goes up with more RPM like you stated it could be the regulator or the alternator. Start by switching out or trying another voltage regulator. If this does not fix the problem you will need to test and repair the alternator. The alternator out put can be tested by bypassing the regulator. This requires special equipment and know how. I hope this gets you

Clock not holding correct time

The common problems with these clocks are a pain. These clocks will screw up whenever it is really humid or wet out. To cure this, you have to remove the instrument panel completely from the dash when it is working properly and clean the back of the panel but not with water, Do it with something that will dry fast and clean like contact cleaner. Then seal the panel with what(just what escapes me right now, sorry) can be sprayed on that will dry in place. Be careful to protect any electrical connections and use dielectric grease where appropriate.
