I dont have an owners manuel. I need to know what kind/brand of transmission fluid to buy it is a 2003 ford taurus

no need to buy it in a gallon. about 2 qts if totally empty

You say transmission fluid levels are good. Is it a nice red or pink color or is it an orange, brown to black color. Does the vehicle actually shift into gear, the linkage from the gear shift from park to drive or reverse maybe be unhooked you can check that out also. Does the trans fluid smell burnt, should be kind of a sweet smell. Good Luck

YOU HAVE TO LOOK IN OWNERS MANUAL OR FACTORY MANUAL IN GLOVE COMPARTMENT.IT WILL TELL YOU WHAT TYPE TRANSMISSION YOUR VECHICLE USE.IF YOU DONT HAVE A OWNERS MANUAL YOU CAN CALL MITSUBISHI SERVICE DEPARTMENT.THEY WILL LOOK IT UP AND TELL YOU.

sounds like trans, they dont always give you warning, check for trans codes

check the fluid is it red or burnt does it do anything in any gear?

For a 2003 auto tranny - use T-IV.
The dipstick has the marking as well as the owner's manual.

This is not a Mercon or Dextron.

If automatic (probably is) you will be using Automatic Transmission Fluid. Please Ensure that you buy the correct type as some of the cheaper brands will actually damage you transmission. for further details, it would be in your owners manual, if not, try contacting your local ford dealer and just ask there service department.

you need to recheck the torque on the bolts to make sure they are tight enough

you'll need to get it diagn., it can be as simple as a "VSS" sensor, or a transmission, check the fluid and if BURNT, your looking at a trans.....GL....

I have a 2003 taurus and in my manual it showed this had something to do with the ABS system and if you need brakes or put over sized tires on then what the factory recommends it will cause this ABS light to come on
and for Guest's response has same problem yours is the sensor and that comes from most times slamming the doors you will have to find where the sensor is located find someone that has a taurus simalar to yours and listen to the click in the dash on drivers side and you will be close
