The oil recommended is 5W-30. You do not need to use a synthetic oil. On the 2005 you can use conventional oil or a synthetic blend if you want.
Hi, you should use energy conserving oil from Mobil One or ELF synthetic that comes from a container stating, "designed for use in GM vehicles". You will save money on gas, on oil changes, sludge will NOT form inside the engine, and everything will last longer.

you probably have a 2.2l ecotec engine. open your hood, its, right side on engine, right center of engine compartment. find your oil filler cap and look lower. its a black oil filter housing. 1"1/4 socket fits it or your can get a special socket for this housing at oriellys for about 10 bucks, your engine holds 5qts of oil. acdelco oil filter pf456g

My owner's manual for my 2004 Classic recommends SAE 5W-30 engine oil. I wouldn't add any oil that is thicker than that, in colder weather your engine may not get the lubrication it needs. FYI, engine oil numbers indicate the viscosity of the oil, (the weight, or heaviness of the oil.) Higher numbers indicate thicker oil, and thicker oil may help if your engine is burning oil, but it also takes longer for the cold oil to get into the bearing surfaces.

Hello,
If you are under the vehicle it should be right on the engine block
facing the front bumper. You kind of have to look up. On some there will
be a plastic panel that you can just pull out (it just has pegs that
hold it in) and just look up. If you still can't see it, use a flash
light I guess. It's on the opposite side of the engine that the drain
plug is on.
Take care.
