Diagnostic I have a 96 chevy cavalier 2.4 liter. I cannot get the pcm to recognize the diagnostic computer. I have used this handheld on a 96 regal so I know it will work on gm obd 2 computers. It will not even turn on when plugged into the cavalier however it works fine with a neon obd2 and the regal. Any tips to get it to work with this pcm.

Same problem. Went to 2 Autozone stores and neither could read it. We looked at every fuse in fuse box. Man said either a wiring problem between diagnostic connector and PCM or it was the PCM itself.

Check your fuse panel for a fuse panel. You are probably not getting power to your diagnostics port on your vehicle. I do not remember which fuse the port is under but just look for the blown one.

Ic been looking for a rpm signil in my 2002 Chevy cavalier

Where have you been looking ? RPM signal for what ?
Tachometer
The IPC displays the engine speed as determined by the BCM via a class 2 message. The BCM receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine speed. The tachometer will default to 0 RPM if:
• The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine speed sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

The CKP sensor is used for ignition timing, the fuel injector timing, misfire diagnostics and tachometer display. The CKP sensor is connected to the ECM by a signal circuit and a low reference circuit.

How to reset the computer on my 96 Chevy cavalier

That is not a computer reset, first check and see if you have a check engine light come on when key is first turned on, if not then the PCM (computer) is either dead or the power to it is.

Chevy Cavalier 91 - Dashboard symbol "check" lite

Some fault code is stored in the PCM (computer); to know what is the problem, I suggest scanned the PCM with some scanner reader codes. Autozone or AutoShop with this tools sometimes make this for free.

Hope this helps.

Firing Order on 2.2 liter: 1-3-4-2
Cylinder number: 1-2-3-4 from passenger to driver's side
From the coil from fire wall to radiator: #1 coil 4-1 #2 coil 3-2 Good luck and this should help you get your car running 100% again.
