I washed the engine bay in my 1995 HOLDEN VS 5.0ltr Caprice and now it won't start. At first it just turned over, then it fired a few times, and now it won't fire at all.It has good spark, and I have tried the ignition module, rotor button and distributer cap in my VN and it runs fine. The fault code reads 12 (no fault). I think it must be a fuel delivery problem.Does anyone have any ideas?
I had the same problem i got a under body wash (never do again) car rod fine till i got it home. i check a bunch of stuff fuel pump, fuel fliter, made sure gas was coming into the motor. i even had a spark. Come to find out i had to do a complete rotor and cap plus all new spark plugs and wires that fixed the problem. Make sure your distributor vent hoses are all hooked up to the distributor as well u dont want water to get in there. if you never did this job before get a hynes auto book for the car made the job that much easier.I had the same problem i got a under body wash (never do again) car rod fine till i got it home. i check a bunch of stuff fuel pump, fuel fliter, made sure gas was coming into the motor. i even had a spark. Any v8 308 holden motor has the same firing order so any manual will give you the order and the direction that the rotor button spins. It is 12784563 with 1357 being on the drivers side and the distributor turning clockwise. If you have a 253 v8 type in firing order for holden 253 v8 in google search and you will get even more information. If you have the original inlet manifold the piston order is stamped in the casting
This is an indication that the fuel system is losing prime. It might be because the injectors are not sealing when the engine is off and the gasoline is syphoning back to the tank.
will engine turn over? how much oil is in crankcase? is there coolant in the oil? are any spark plugs steam cleaned? sounds like a spun bearing on the crankshaft.
Get a second ignition key, the one you are using is dirty or moisted, you need to turn on and off the car witha clean key, hapens to me once in a while.!!
Sounds a lot like an overheated engine.
The electric cooling fan should run after turning off the ignition when it is hot if this is like most vehicles and prevents heat buildup in fuel lines.
Try flooring the gas pedal and leave it there while you crank the engine.
This will prevent flooding the engine with fuel and give the engine a leaner mix to start.
Replace the steering box - check junkyard for one of similar model/year or ask Pep Boys to help by cross ref. your make/yr with others. Pep Boys will even install for you.
