Hyundai Tucson 2005 V6 Auto. Steering had a knock, had the Steering "overhauled" which fixed the knocking for a week. After the "overhaul", the steering is VERY heavy at standstill, like no power assist. If the transmission is in N or P, the power assist is fine, so only when in a driving gear, either D or R at standstill is it heavy. I took it back to the place that worked on it and they seem confused. They want to flush the steering fluid and then take the pump out and clean it. But i KNOW they are going to charge me. This wasn't a problem before they took took the steering rack out for overhaul. Steering fluid is fine.

I think your steering was OK to begin with before the "overhaul" But I also think that the knock you described is caused by two worn sway bar bushes. You should replace the two drop links while your at it. Whole job is only an hours labour and parts are quite cheap. Try Rock Auto.com they sell loads of them. This is my third Tucson. First one developed a knock at about 40,000. 2nd Tucson at about the same mileage and my current Tucson has 49,450 miles on the clock. Just replaced them and it rides ( and steers) perfect once again ( no noisy clunk every time I hit a pothole). You need to drop the subframe slightly at the footwell to get the clamps off.... My bet is, your guys lubricated the bushes with WD40 while they had easy access. Try it yourself .... spray the bushes and the noise goes for a short time..... If it helps.... I also think there is an airlock in the steering fluid. BTW: Hyundai tech guys know about this problem with the bushes not lasting that long. The rubber bulges out of the clamp under certain loading conditions. They fit a jubilee type clamp on the inside of the bushes now to stop it happening. but I think the rubber is too soft. When you take them off, the car is at a standstill and they don't look worn. They do however bulge out of the clamp slightly and allow the bar to move outside the design spec and this causes a knock. Sometimes you can even feel it through the pedals. Hope that helps. Mike

Hey Mike. Thanks for your words of wisdom. I'll certainly get them to check the Sway Bar bushes! As for the steering, there was definitely a problem as at standstill, there was a lot of play. That seems better now. You're talking about Subframe bushes as well, i was TOLD originally that the subframe bushes were worn and it was apparently a BIG job and that they had to lower/lift the engine out of the way first. :-0 Was worried about that! That was the dealer. I went to what i thought was a specialist in suspension and steering. They have never heard of subframe bushes... hahaha... well, i should have run away right then! They said they would flush the steering fluid in case there is "dirt" in there from when they worked on the steering. They'd better not charge me!!

    Thanks again Mike!

My ac heater and defrost will not work at all in my 2005 Hyundai Tucson new blower motor and resister what else

Hi,

Please check the heater motor and also the thermostat. If those don't work, then this can also lead to your ac/heating system to malfunction as well.

Please use autozone to get a free diagnostic run on your car to get a list of errors. Then, they can tell you which errors are relevant to your ac/heating issue.

Thank you.

I had my radiator fail last week. I have always had a little knock in the engine, but now I have big knocking sound. I had the head pressure test in each tested to 150 PSI. I have replaced the radiator and...

Sounds like you are due for an engine overhaul, you have a connecting rod knocking if it varies with engine speed (unloaded) or you have a main bearing knocking if it varies with load and rpm. Let me know if the knock is down low or closer to the head..I doubt it valves...you have an engine that needs an overhaul.
