Not sure what kind of car you have, but on my Toyota Van, 4D is Drive, but it will only go up to 4th Gear. This is used for pulling hills so it doesn't keep dropping from 5th to 4th and back to 5th.
So is the 4D there when in park? When does is show up?
What kind of hill are you going up when it gets hotter? When going up hill you are putting more of a work load on the engine so it is possible for the temperature to rise. Is it getting hot to where it is over heating?
if you drive on hills at high rpm ur engine temp. will surely shoot up due to the load on ur engine while trying to gain the desired speed/ u should not drive uphill with high rpm try to maintain low speed with low rpm
It depends on what warning light is on! In any case, from your description and experience, it would be your engine 'Oil' warning light: it comes on when there is not enough lubrication (thus the overheating) flowing because of low oil pressure: immediately check your oil leveland top up as required) and make sure that change your oil and oil filter as soon as possible as it is a very damaging condition and the engine could seize. Hope it helps: let me know hoe you go.
Hi it might be a cracked head... You should do what they call a TK test to see if there is carbon in the radiator fluid. Any automotive supplies shop should have them. Its like test strips. Give it a go and see what happens.
Its overheating when you go up long hills because the engine is not getting adaquete air in the system. The radiator is angled to get optimal air a certain way. It may overheat but you shouldn't start seeing smoke.
